Absolutely nothing visibly wrong on the outside of the block.....

Then I saw the perverbial 'ring of metallic fire' when I drained the oil:http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/4/0/4/DSC02632.JPG
And the trunk-o-junk.....

The shortblock may be done today. I predict the car will be on the road next Sunday.

And for those of us who haven't taken apart a blown motor...

Yeah...some of us need educated.;)
What happened and what is damaged.
Are we able to resell the block and re-coup some funds?

Let me know if the small leak at the main pully is fixable while the motor is out. When my mech did the pullies years ago, it started a tiny leak that would puddle at the base, and spray on the motor front when I drove. I was always having to wash the motor face.

Also, the dealer put all those hose covers on one day when it was in for service as they were bored that day. If you wouldn't mind, pull that crap off upon reassembly. Thanks.

Those Trilogy covers belong to Dale, so as much as they scream to be pitched...don't.:P

Whew...can't wait to see more!

I'm glad you didn't want that blue stuff, you know blue doesn't belong on SB

by the way, you got me curious what pulley are you talking about, I thought you were replacing the short block anyway?

Sorry for my ignorance, I still don't get it :o. What is wrong with the motor based on this perverbial ring of metallic fire? What caused it? Can it be repaired? Would the motor still run well despite this injury?

Thanks

The stainless. That didn't work out. Save the ends. I can ebay 'em.:D

Duh to me..the car had underdrives perhaps worth saving. I wasn't even thinking when I said that. :stupid:

You guys are crackin me up over this 'ring of fire' comment.

When I take the oil pan off, we will all know what went wrong.
Until then, all I was trying to show that yes, there is definitely a problem with some metallic parts that led to the engine locking up.

Sheesh
