I was wondering, since having the rpms higher upon take off makes you move faster, wouldnt raising the idle also make you get off the line faster? say instead of idling around 600-800rpm, up to like 900-1200? just curious.

If you raise the idle, the car will want to move foward...when off the brakes. Not a safe proposition in city traffic. You may want to raise the idle during racing only...IMHO. Not to mention the ramifications on the brakes (to stop foward movement) and fuel economy... and of coarse heat. ALOHA

also don't forget the transmission temperature should rise, it's like always power braking the car, even if slightly.

i see i see. well so much for that idea, thanks.

I'd say, if you had a high stall converter, there may be some benefit.:twocents:

hey, i DO have a high stall converter(3000). what benefit do you speak of?

You might get back some "creep" at idle that may have been lost with going to a loose converter.

I raised my idle a notch to see if it would get rid of an exhaust resonance that was annoying me. It did. It definitely wants to creep forward more easily now if I take my foot off the brake pedal at lights. Wouldn't want to raise it any more.

My totally stock marauder has the annoying stock exhaust resonance about 150 rpms above its normal hot idle. This is fine w/ me, I guess I got lucky that it is not resonating AT idle. When the car is at cold high idle and coming down, it crosses through the annoying resonant idle speed. If I raised my idle speed 150 rpms at hot idle it would invoke the resonance. WHen I first got the car I thought something was wrong, I'd hear the wowwowowowow resonance when it was coming down off high idle, for about 20 seconds until the speed had dropped below the resonance.

I raised my idle a notch

how much exactly?

I dont remember exactly, it was a while back. There were specific increments listed by number of RPMs on my xcalibrator2 in the custom program, I used the first one higher than the one it was already set at. If I get time to putter around weeknights this week I will hunt up my xcal2 and look at it again.

I noticed the resonance idling in gear at stoplights with the engine warmed up after having the magnaflows installed.

I guess, more correctly said, it may not hurt anything, to bump it up a little, if he had a high stall converter. As far as benefits, I'm not sure what would be gained, as far as off the line "jump" with a higher RPM at idle. :dunno:
