View Full Version : Towed....again
Had to get towed again last Thursday. Getting on 294S by Ohare, and boom, the rear suspension blew out again. No warning lights, no nothing. Haven't looked into it yet, but I think a bag went south. I checked fuses, and the connections to the compressor (my 3rd one). When I was waiting for the tow, I did see 2 other Marauders drive by. When you switch the pump off, the light will come on the dash, but when the pump is switched back on again, the light goes off, and nothing. The lines look to be ok. The pump does not run. The failure was very sudden, just an immediate bottom out condition. Is there a warning system to let you know if pressure is not what it should be on our cars? Because no lights came on, or are on now. When it gets a little cooler out, I'll start to tear into it more.

My air suspesnion went during the winter.....I had the warning light go on....I replaced my air suspension...Since then its been fine.....I just don't like that small air box, that is in front of the air filter...Its easy to break......
Gary,
How ya been? I've just been too busy to do anything fun yet this year. Anyway, I looked at the car, and one of the bags is pretty much destroyed. So I will be getting both bags and a new dryer for the compressor. I hope that's it. I don't know when I can get to it, so it will sit for a week or so. My buddy said that the life of the air spring is anywhere from 80k to 100k. I just turned over 80k on my car. I still want to know why no lights came on, or are on now with a failure like this?

I had a 85 Grand Marquise Wagon with factory air ride and when it went bad there was no light to tell me it was bad. Back then Mercury said it was going to be a thousand dollars to fix it. I took another route to fix it but I would put leaf springs in my Marauder.

You didnt say if you had replaced any of the bags already, always replace them in pairs. There is also a desiccant in the housing that removes moisture from the system that may need replacing, I remember that on the Navigators.
Make sure that the link(s) that turns the system on to level the height is/are adjusted properly so as not to overfill the bags (you should notice some excessive ride height if this is the case) that will damage or cause premature failure of the bags too if its not corrected.
Having worked on Italian cars for many years, the one friend we've found when working with any rubber components and increasing longevity is silicone spray. A good dousing every now and then of rubber components really prevents lots of issues.
I've never had to replace any hoses or any boots etc. on most of my cars using the stuff. I have 109k on my Saturn and every piece of rubber is perfect under the hood including the CV boots. My Honda has 161k on it and I 've never replaced anything on it as well and it all looks like new..
