This is actually my first post. Unfortunately, it's about a problem I've encountered in my first month of ownership. I picked up an 04 Marauder a month ago with 27,500 miles. Only one owner before me (female). At any rate, I've driven the car about 1,000 miles. Late last week, while driving back to the office after lunch, I could not get out of 2nd gear. In fact, it would downshift to 1st, then neutral -- all while in overdrive. I drove him in 2nd gear, which was interesting -- about 55 mph @ 4000 RPM.

I took it to the local Lincoln-Mercury dealer to get it checked out. The verdict was: Pressure loss in the converter and 3/4 clutch pack and a valve body problem.

Is this normal, especially for a Marauder with such low mileage? Right now, Ford Customer Service is supposed to get back to me this afternoon because while I'm under the mileage warranty, I've seven months out of time warranty. Replacement trans is 1800, with an additional 800 in labor. This part would have a 3-year, 75,000 mile warranty. Is this something I should consider? I'm in the Chicagoland area.

Thanks.

Normal? No. Have people lost fairly low mileage transmissions in these cars? Sure. However a lot of guys on this board have performance modifications that are putting a lot more than normal strain on the stock transmission. My understanding with the warranty is that if you are out of time, that's it. I suppose they can do a warranty "assist" at their discretion.

Zack is very knowledgeable and is one of the very few people I trust to work on MY cars...

I am in Oswego. I don't think I'm that far from you. I'm near Naperville/Aurora.

I trust Zack ( ). He just fixed my Trans up...now.. for some reason, it eats tires??? :D

FWIW - This would be the PERFECT time to install a new Torque Converter and the Rear Cooling Mod ;)

Yeah, if you are going to swap converters sell me your stock 04 one! It will give me 300 rpms more than my 03 stock 'verter!

Im almost positive its the 2-3 accumulator piston that has failed.
I already have the part on order and he is dropping the car off Saturday.

That will make 4 Marauders at the house, at one time.
