Can anyone explain to me on how to change the ignition coils on my 2003 marauder I took it to the ford dealership in California the land of high prices and the dude told me 804.15 which I know he had done lost his mind so i got pissed :mad2: so i figured i can do it myself with the help from so of you more experience minor mechs on the site can anyone send me some advice and also does anyone out there know how i can get some of that excess oil out of the ignition coil chamber

Ignition coils are $40 each on rockauto.com and are easy to change out. The real question is why you have engine oil in the cam cover wells. Do something with your PCV system?

How many miles do you have ?
How often have you changed your motor oil and what are you using?
PCV Valve should be changed every 60,000 miles.

If you have oil in the spark plug holes then you need valve cover gaskets. This is what most likely took out a coil if that is your problem. You really did'nt say why you were changing them. The coils are very easy to get to. Remove the two ten mm bolts on the coil covers and they are right there. Once the cover is removed you can simply pull the coils out, but do not get to horsey and pull the harness apart.

Accel "Super Coils" are $25 each from Summit:

I agree with ^^^^
to answer your question on the oil in "coil chamber" starting with a cool engine I would use brake clean and compressed air, of course before removing spark plugs. You should slap in a set of plugs while you are there.

You may also want to install a set of the Granatelli Coil-on-plug wires too.
Once you get in there and wreck the Bic Pen spings that FORD uses
for ignition wires, you'll see why you need the Granatelli wires.

You could feel a difference with those coils ? I was wondering about them.

Agree with others that you need to replace the valve covers gaskets first
Then go with the Accel coils and new plugs. For plugs I used the NGK TR55IX. Noticable difference in smoothness & a bit more seat of the pants go.
All these things are very easy for a do-it-yourselfer. Be carefull when installing the plugs. Install with engine cold, a bit of anti-seize on the plugs and torque to 14 ft-lbs. (I think 14 is the right number, you should confirm it.) The heads are aluminum and over torquing the plugs is bad.
Good Luck

The Granatelli wires might be ok, but the coils are not recommended. Their coil hp claims seem very bogus, and two respected tuners I talked to do not recommend them. MSD now has COP's, but they are rather pricey. The Accels are an outstanding value.

To answer to other question someone posted was after my car was ran on the diag eec system to plug were missing blown completly out of the chamber which had me running on 6cyclinders how the oil got in there im not sure but i got wire damage and coil damage on the number 6 and 7 coils with large amount of oil in coil cover and im curretly at 66,000 miles

Seeing that your question was answered, I thought I'd pose this question while we are on this subject... I just saw those Accel coils offered by SUMMIT; So you guys believe they are a good choice? Also where do you get those Granatelli wires?

I have the same question summit offer the wires but what size would be better for power and a good fit :flamer:

...where do you get those Granatelli wires?
Summit has the Granatelli insulator and wire connector kit:
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=GRN%2D28%2D1705S&N=700+4294908269+4294906832+42 94924641+4294925143+4294864973 +400382+115&autoview=sku
They show a (wrong) MSD wire set for Marauders also, but our cars don't use the typical 'plug wires. We have "COP" ignition coils, which means "coil-on-plug". When you remove the R&L covers, you will find that the 8 sparkplugs have 8 individual coils that are connected directly on top of the 'plugs. There is a rubber boot that surrounds a short, so-called "Bic" ink-pen like spring that connects the coil to the 'plug.
The Granatelli wire kit is nothing more than 8 short wire connectors and 8 boots. They have an imaginary horsepower boost, necessated by their $140 + price-tag.
RPM outlet has MotoBlue complete kits -coil + cover + wire for $199. Easy install. I don't know how they compare to others, but typically Motoblue is decent stuff.

Plus at the bottom of the page they have a picture of the stockers and the replacements.

First off, why is the dealer insistent on replacing all the coils? Is just it just one cylinder thats misfiring?
Borg Warner OE Replacement Coils (Ford Coils Boxed in a BW Box) come with a lifetime warranty, and sell for about 40 bucks a piece all day long at your Local Auto parts store. I replaced a few on my 32V Navigator last week (Same Heads and Coils as the MM), the top of the coil had a sharpie marker where they marked over the ford Part number. BW probably makes it for ford.
Anyway, I would just replace the bad coil and move on.
Also inspect your Coil Boot, they are inexpensive and available at the auto parts store for less than 3 bucks each.
On Edit, I agee with the others about replacing the Valve Cover gaskets and O-Rings. Although IIRC the engine has to be shifted to accomplish that.

A couple of corrections here...
1 - The Granatelli COP Wires are available from Innovative Interceptors (Wes).
So there is no need to go to anyone else.
2 - The Granatelli Wires DO NOT CLAIM an imaginary HP boost. You will get what they claim.
3 - The Granatelli wires also claim ZERO RESISTANCE. If you have ever SEEN the HEAVY gauge cable
that is used on a Granatelli COP Wire, you would know that there is a HUGE difference
between these wires and the FORD OEM BIC PEN SPRINGS that are used for our COP Wires.
I have these wires on my Marauder and they do make a difference.
I installed these wires at 36,000 miles WITHOUT changing the original spark plugs,
just to see if the was any difference made at all in driveability.
When I replaced the FORD Springs, 4 of them were already BURNED.
The Granatelli Wires still look like the same as the day they were installed.
The idle is smoother than it was with the OEM Wires.
Acceleration is quicker, and the 1-2 chirp became a reality.

Wire gauge necessary for low resistance decreases as voltage increases. That is why transmission lines out in the street and across the country are not large diameter. An automotive spark plug wire can be very thin and easily carry enough current to jump the plug gap with a healthy spark.
If anyone has 4 "burned" wires between their coils and plugs, replacing them will make a very noticeable horsepower and performance increase.
I'm sure the Granatelli wires are good quality, and priced for what the market will pay. They can claim ridicules performance gains because no one calls them out.
I just checked 6 used Ford spring type connector wires and they all had between 3 and 4 0hms resistance. To avoid RF interference, some resistance is needed in the sparkplugs or plug wires, unless shielding is used.

Summit works too, they are the same ones as listed for 03 & 04 cobras. I believe they list for $140 or so. IMO they are a great mod; I have a much smoother idle, better response and it feels much peppier down low and this is all in hot and humid conditions... cant wait for cool dry nights!
