View Full Version : Who designed the Marauder's rims?

Anyone know who designed the Marauder's rims at FoMoCo? You see very few cars that have the 'almost' perfect factory rim....aside from our cars. :)

I get so many people asking where I got my rims. When I say they're factory rims, they have this look of disbelief and say "Really?"

I have gotten bitten by the 'bigger rim bug' in the past including with this car but very few rims themselves do it for me. If we had the same design in 19 or 20, I'd jump on it. But the way it stands for me, stock rims are the way to go!!!

I love people's disbelief about the rims lol. I believe ALCOA made the wheels, not sure if the designed them or not.

I love the pattern they throw off when sunlight hits them and I'm rolling thru a parking lot or in stop and go traffic.

It's a pretty close held secret .... 'cause the guy doesn't want to let on that he has a rim job. ;)

It's an interesting question because generally FoMoCo has a terrible reputation for wheel design (Think of the fugly wheels on the 87-90 Mustang GT, the wheels on the 93 Cobra, etc.). In fact, most of the best designs on FMC cars have been designed by others (e.g, Bullitt Wheels, Magnum 500's). Chevrolet is even worse.

IMHO Dodge is one of the best at wheel design. Look at the wheels on the SRT8 Charger, the Ram 1500 Sport, the 2009 Challenger, etc.

I have to agree with the orginal point. Seems like every car I have bought in the past, my first thought was to change the wheels. I have yet to see a wheel on a Marauder (or any panther for that matter) that looks as good as the factory wheels.

This is the first car I ever had where the thought of changing the wheels to a different design is completely foreign to me. I cringe at changing the wheels. The wheels, IMO, are an integral part of what makes it a Marauder; because once you change the wheels, the only thing left to separate us (to a lay person) from a typical CVsport is the Marauder impression on the rear. To me, a Marauder with its wheels changed out looks like a typical CVsport.

I'm at the point now where I'd spend the money to have them restored to perfect condition than buy brand new different wheels.

I like the classic 5-spoke design. These are the 20"ers on my wfie's Charger R/T. Nice wheels but they are chrome-clad aluminium wheels.... the "chrome" is a plastic cover that is epoxied to the wheel. I understand these are over $1,600.00 each  from Dodge.

You think the Ram has good rims? Did you know that most of the Ram rims are fake? They are 20" steel rims with a pretty good plastic "chrome" look piece on it. And yet, Dodge charges $600 for one.

Which just goes to show that chrystler and there cars are just plastic boxes that look nice.

GM is rubber and ford is something in between that

Sorry, no offense. To my eye, they look like someone cromed an electric fan from a radiator and bolted them on the car. They look even worse on a T-Bird. Then again ... it's just a personal opinion. I think Fox Mustangs look great with Bullitt style wheels.

I did not know how they were constructed. I was just commenting on the visual design.

In my opinion a Marauder is not a Marauder without its rims. I would never change the rims.

+1 /\ what he said

I get a lot of comments about the car every day, a lot of those are wheel comments. there is a lot of buzz out there about the 09 Boss mustang prototype and its Marauder rims...

I always look at them and stand amazed that they are holding the car up.

Exactly, I get this all the time. IMO the centre caps make the wheel.

During MV3 someone was overheard to say, "those wheels sure must be popular, everyone has them".

I would love a set of the chrome Bullitt style wheels, especially in a 17" size for the extra choice in tires, but I just can't see how it would improve the looks of the car. The stock wheels MAKE the Marauder.

When I first saw the Marauder, my initial thought was : "Too much chrome!". Now that it's been a while, I can't imagine this car with any other wheel.

That's the same way I feel, for a stock rim, they're nice.....

The PI rims for the winter tires are better....

I also think the stock rims are an integral part of the "look" of the Marauder. I think it'd be cool to have 19's or maybe even 20's, but the only way I'd consider it is if someone made a reproduction of the stock style in a bigger size, and I doubt that's happening anytime soon.
