I believe most of us at one time or another have experienced what is known around here as the Crown Vic Effect on the highways.... basically cars on the interstate slide right to let you through, right. :D

However, recently I have started to notice that there is a similar effect even on residential and secondary roads. For awhile now, I have observed that the mere fact of pulling up behind someone at a stop light or at a stop sign causes them to reach up and put their seatbelt on. I don't think that this is pure coincidence because it happens so frequently.

So you might say that we are performing a public service by getting out there and driving our MMs. :) Is that tax deductible??

I know what you mean, on my MGM when I have the winter steelies and snows on people don't seem to pass me till they figure out I'm not a unmarked car. Also I was at a friends house parked in front, and after I left a neighbor asked them why was there a detective at the house. The MGM front lights are very similar to a CV that if I drive with parking lights on people move out the way, very useful on the L.I.E.

I hear you Charlie, in Florida it is well known the Marauder is used by the Highway Patrol so here we have the CrownVic/Marauder effect....double whammy!!!:D I consider it a public service.;)

I notice that I get waved thru a LOT of 4-way stops even when it clearly isn't my turn.

the "crown vic effect" is a lot of fun, my wife got a kick out of it as we drove ours home from Texas. every day I do my public service and wake folks up all over town... what fun!

wearing my autozone grey shirt and namebadge helps sometime too...

Driving a Crown Vic Sport everyday, I experience this all the time. And you're right, we are doing a service. I've noticed people put their cell phones down too.
The best for me is when I work the morning shift. I hit the Long Island Expressway just before 6 am. and I found that I have decreased my own speed by nearly ten miles an hour, yet I get to work 5 minutes earlier than compared to driving my 93 Town Car.

i used to own a 94 CV. at night people would move but during the day tehy could clearly see it was purple.

now that i have a black MM people move right out of the way. the strobe lights and police interceptor badge help too...;) see my MM was used as a precession car for the St. James Funeral home in St. James NY. when i bought it it was fully loaded with police interceptor badge and front and back strobe lights.:) although i do NOT use them for fear of being pulled over for impersonating a police officer, they are cool to have for car shows.

WIMP! :D

A train horn would make people get out of the way even faster though, its still a thought in my mind

I notice this effect also everyday it fun on the highway setting the curise around 85 and just whatch the cars pull out of your way. I dont like the effect on seconday 1 lane roads when the car in front of me becomes the perfect driver and does 5 mph under the speed limit thinking I am going to pull him over.

Another part of the effect i had happen is around town there is a all black crown vic unmarked police car tinted out looks good he pulled up to me on the highway one night and edged me on so i beat him up to 110 mph then backed off turned off my exit he followed me into a parking lot. turns out it was an old friend of mine on duty. We were comparing my mm to his crown vic.

i get it all the time now that i have a vic p71 ,but the crappy part is when your trying to go down the highway in the left lane and the person in front of you is to scared to move or go 1mph over the posted limit

A couple of weeks ago I had an interesting CVE event. I pulled up to turn right from a secondary highway to a major one and a 94-95 Mustang GT just past by with another car coming behind a ways back. I had enough room that if I sped up quickly I could make the corner easily, so I punched it and made the corner.
Just after it shifted into second gear the Mustang in front of me put on his signal and pulled over and slowed to a stop. I went by him, the driver stared at me as I past and he then waited for the other car to go by and pulled back onto the road. That one made my day. :)

I was fueling at a local 'stop-and-rob'. The pump wouldn't take the card, so the clerk turned the pump on for manual. I thought "how nice", as this is an unusual practice. They usually make you pre-pay.
So, I fill the tank, walk inside, grab a soda and a snack and pay for it all on my card. The clerk says "thanks, deputy" as I leave. I was dumbfounded! Then I realized I was wearing green khaki dockers and a grey shirt. Local sheriff wears dark green and the higher ups wear light grey polos. I guess she put the clothes and the car together!

At least it saved me a trip in the store and a 'guess' on how much gas I needed!

I have noticed this from day one and it is sometimes a blessing
but most of the times annoying.

Most of the people will get out of your way
that are paying attention to their mirrors.
If they are oblivious to the world, they will see you
and sit in the left lane doing 55 mph.

Sometimes you will come up on some people
that are spooked lightly or have possibly been pulled over.
They are extremely eager to get out of the lane
to the point that they don't watch what they are doing
and can sometimes cause an accident !

The majority of our county LEOs drive blue CVPIs, so I know what you mean. A lot of them give me a wave on the road, so either they're being very friendly, or they mistake me for an unmarked cruiser.

I think you guys must be looking for it.

Most of the time, and especially when I'm driving the '03 CVPI, people are oblivious to it. It's just another car to them.

There have been a few times on the Hwy where someone speeding up has suddenly reduced speed, probably seeing the car out of the corner of their eye. These are rare occasions though.

it is because you are the boy in blue.

A friend had the same effect when he had his camcorder mounted in his caprice.

He had great driving videos but nobody passed him.

The driver's license manual in VT clearly states "Headlights are for driving and parking lights are for parking" Running with Parking Lights is a ticketable offense... "improper illumination"

Of course, you can also get a ticket here for "failure to avoid wildlife in the roadway" You can get a ticket for hitting a deer... Poor Bambi....
