Okay, we've all owned our Black Beauties for a while now and I was wondering, any preference on car waxes? Asked the question about a year ago but was thinking maybe somebody found one since then that everybody likes. Is there a wax members prefer for durability, no cloudiness after wiping off the wax, maybe hides little scratches and doesn't break your arms and elbows to wipe off? I used McGuiars Gold and thought it was pretty good. I saw one members Black Marauder recently and he told me he did with with Zaino and looked great but I think the owner told me there is a claybar used and three or four separate applications to do the job. Don't have that kind of time. Any preferences? I'm from Southeastern Pennsylvania and someone told me about a place in Philadelphia on Roosevelt Boulevard that makes waxes for different car colors? Anybody hear of this place or use their wax? What did you think?

Use a decent sealant or wax.

I personally use zymol wax, and love it, but it depends.

If you are waxing your car monthly, i would go with a decent wax. If you just about never wax your car, i would use a sealant.

I would use a claybar on the car first, and than wax. Make sure to use a high quality wax. I personally use zaino, clay magic (10.99 at autozone for a huge bar FYI if you guys are cheap, it works well and comes with lube), and zymol.

Clay bar then a good wax if you're not inclined to wax more than 2 or 3 times a year. If you intend to wax more frequently try Turtle Wax ICE.

Try this. I have been using if for over a year now. Its really easy to apply and just as easy to remove without all the cloudiness and white dust.I just waxed my wifes truck today and its slippery as a hookers...:censor:Let me stop . There is also a hardwax sealer that I have used and its just as good.

You can also use it in the sun with the same results just a little bit more sweat. Its used on Aston Martins, Jags, McLarens and other high end cars. Here is the link to research it.

If you have trouble locating it here is the number for the local detail store I get it from.

Zaino! One go around with the clay bar was sufficient for me. The polish comes with an accelerator and dries in a half hour. No matter what you use it's going to take some time and elbow grease.

OK .... you are close enough. Why don't you roll on down to Marauderville V in Hagerstown, MD being held during the 2-5 August timeframe. You will be able to do your "best wax" research in person and talk to a whole bunch of owners about their preferences.

You'll see some terrific representations of Black MMs there on site as well as Silver, DTR and Blue. Everyone has a favorite wash, wax, polish and buff technique. Use the opportunity to ask Joe Walsh, Haggis, Ladyhawke or Merc about their car care products. Their rides have all been recognized with awards a car shows. :D I bet they all use different products..... except maybe Haggis ..... 'cause I heard that he is ripping off Ladyhawke's stash while she isn't looking. The CAM area has lots of fine looking MMs of all colors.

GordonB's Blue MM has kicked my butt 2 years in a row at the Safford L-M show even though we both use Meguiar's NXT Techwax and Turtle Wax ICE polish. He's just better at it. ;)

There's nothing like an "in person" check to see what you like ... then ask. Maybe they'll even pop the hood and make you forget all about wax for a while.

Hope to see you in August.

You can see the dates on the photos. I polished it (a single coat) just prior to MVIV so it would look pretty for you guys. ;) It was just now (June 2007) getting where I thought I might use the detailer spray on it to restore the gloss. Still looked good enough at the car wash that someone always commented on it. That's seven or eight months it has retained the deep shine. It goes on easily and comes off easily. NO white residue. You can use it on just about every part of the car except windows and mirrors. It made the headlights and tail lights look like colored glass. I know some of you guys spend hours and hours painstakingly detailing your MMs, but I really do not enjoy that kind of thing and do not have the time to commit to it. I have enlightened several folks at work about using ICE and they love it on their Harleys and trucks too. I am sure Zaino, etc are great and probably better in the long run, but Ice is the quick easy, lazy way to a deep shine. I will be sure to photograph again when it gets polished next. I was about to do it, but I kinda wrecked it.

Seems like I remember that some of the guys use the traditional wax systems and then follow up with a coat of TWI on top of it to add an more insane deep gloss. You might wish to try that also.

Special note:
I got sooo carried away with Ice I covered everything... even the metallic parts of the windshield wipers. I have discovered over time that windex type glass cleaner seems to act as a solvent for Ice and gets my hands sticky. I recommend avoiding your windshield wipers with the Ice. LOL

+1 on traditional wax with TWI over it. Ice is a polish (not a wax) so it will wear away (but not too quickly VS. weekly washing), so you need something under it.

The "nano's" and "ices" coming out over the past couple of years are INCREDIBLE and soooooo easy to work with.

I used to do roughly 5 steps on all my cars (involved bars, buffers, compounds, waxes, straight carnuba, spotlights, damp chamois, jack stands, fans, sprays, etc, etc), and top everything off with glaze just to get one half of the results I get with the stuff off the shelf at the local auto parts store.

Plus my black has all but rejected the expensive stuff I've bought for it (namely Zymol, and not the store-bought blue stuff either but carbon which I keep in my refrigerator). Stuff hazed up or just "fell off" like I've never seen before and I've sworn by Zymol for years.

But Meg's, Mother's or similar cleaner wax with the Ice on top blows my mind EVERY time on all my cars...

The only issue I have with ICE is that it attracts dust like a mofo. This past weekend, DirtyDog and I both had clean, freshly waxed cars (his w/NXT & mine w/ICE - both black). We then went on a mountain pass cruise and happened to hit a patch of dirt road that kicked up a bunch of dust. After that we hit highway speeds again for a while. Once we stopped later on, mine was still covered with a fine coat of dust while his had been blown off almost completely.

Can't beat the convenience though...

I agree...I don't consider the ICE to be a wax at all, but a good polish.
I like to use a "traditional wax and then the ICE on top of that....It looks freakin great....one thing I love about the ICE though is that is also works great on all of your rubber trim, and black plastic pieces

Wow! A few of the members recommedned the Turtle Wax Ice. Yours looks incredible. I would like to ask you three other questions if you don't mind.

1. Are there two color blue Marauders out there? I saw one just like yours about a month ago on Route 18 near New Brunswick, New Jersey. It looked a lot darker than the one BlueRauder drives. BlueRauder's is very nice but I like yours better since the one I saw in Jersey was a deep metallic blue that I never saw before.

2. How are the KDW2 tires holding up? I have the same, I could tell from the tread pattern you have them too. I have 30K on mine and they are wearing really well. Used the carfixers wheel alignment recommendation and he tires are wearing evenly. Plenty of tread left but I think they are too noisy. Reminds me of driving on snow tires.

3. I notice you have Magnaflow Mufflers. Do you have the part number? Also, is a straight installation or are any kinds of modifications needed such as sleeves, cutting or extending or replacing exhaust pipes?

Thank you very much. I had a helper, it took an hour or two, that was all. Woulda done a second coat, but it got dark. I was very very amazed at how well it turned out. really couldn't see it untill the next day in the sun.

Only one color blue, Dark Blue Pearl, from the factory. I notice it looks lighter or darker depending on the weather that it is reflecting at the time. Looks much darker in rainy weather. Also, it's possible you saw one that had been repainted a darker blue.
2. How are the KDW2 tires holding up? I have the same, I could tell from the tread pattern you have them too. I have 30K on mine and they are wearing really well. Holding up pretty well, they are at least as good wearing as the OEM style. My driving is nearly all city, so they are gonna wear faster for me than a lot of folks. About 17000 miles so far on the KDW2s and they still have significant tread left. Looks like I will be replacing the rears before the fronts though. Not surprising based on my habits, though...;)

Not sure, I am not mechanical at all. I had my brake and muffler guy do it. He cut the OEMs out with a sawzall and welded the new ones on. I tried to stay well out of the way. :) Model number is 11235, they are 14 inch mufflers.

Ckadiddle: After hearing a lot of opinions on the subject of the best wax it seems many members liked the Turtle Wax Ice product. So here's what I did. My son is getting married this Saturday and the Marauder is the wedding car. So I bought the Turtle Wax Ice Claybar and used that and hosed the car off. Left a bit of white residue even though I hosed it several times. I figured it didn't matter and I was right. I put the Turtle Wax Ice Polish (not wax) on and did the whole car including the weather stripping and platic parts and even the headlight covers as prescribed on the package. Took about three hours for the polish to dry. Used the cloth provided with the polish to remove and left a bit of cloudiness. So I washed the car again dried it, buffed it off with the polishing cloth from Turtle Wax and holy cow man! Never saw such a deep rich shine before on my Black Bomber. I can look into it and use it as a mirror to shave. I can honestly say it was much better than I ever expected. I'm waiting to see now how long it holds up. Normally it was a two day job before doing a wax job but I did this in a day and didn't have to break my elbows and arms to get the wax off. I also like the idea that dust doesn't seem to cling to it as bad. I can acknowledge your photos are the real deal. What I am particulalrly impressed with is how deep the shine is. Maybe using the claybar first had something to do with it. I'm also wondering if insted of Armor All maybe I can put the polish on the tires since it can be put on rubber. I like the idea that the polish does the rubber weather stripping and plastic and didn't turn white. By the way, in your photos I see you have the KDW2 tires from BF Goodrich. Mine have about 35K on them and they are wearing really great but tell me, are they as noisy as truck tires or is it just me? I never heard tires so loud before. Thanks for the tip on Turtle Wax Ice! By the way, I also did the Claybar thing from Turtle Wax on the Rims and then did them with the same Turtle Wax Ice Polish and God do they shine. They also seem as bright as when I bought the car. When driving down the road I can look at Black Asphalt and as my wheels are turning see the reflection turning on the road if you can believe it. Thanks again but tell me about your experience with the noise and the tires.
