View Full Version : 2008/2009 Marauder???

Let me start off by saying I think this is complete B.S., but having heard it from three or four people locally (all of whom Idon't think know one another), I have to ask if anyone has heard a rumor that Mercury is considering bringing back the Marauder platform?
To me, it seems like smoke up the rear, as Mercury didn't hit their production numbers the last time around, but I'm a firm believer that the only dumb question is one that isn't asked. Has anyone heard the same line?
I combed over the web several times and have not seen a hint of this, so my best guess is that this "news" started at a local car show and has been rolling downhill since (and we all know what rolls downhill!).

Most likley BS, but if Ford/Mercury does build the "Interceptor" it is possible they could have a Marauder version for the Mercury division. But that wouldn't be till 2009/2010.

The problem with Mercury is they have no brand identity whatsoever. GM may have its problems, but I think they've got a decent idea going on. They're portraying Cadillac as the higher end "sporting" luxury car, and Buick as the lower end "traditional" luxury car. Ford can't keep up with that as long as they have Lincoln trying to play to both markets (though IMO not doing a very good job of it). Perhaps if they gave Merury a sportier image, they could go take on Pontiac, but that would take about a complete 180 to accomplish. While they might be in better shape than a couple years ago, and while ending non-fleet sales of the Crown Vic might help Marquis numbers a little bit, they're still wandering around near the edge of irrelevancy. What they need is either a 'halo car', a knockout concept, or preferably #1, introduced as #2. Maybe a new cougar?
Elena got promoted. From Automotive News:
Elena Ford's star continues to rise at Ford Motor Co. The 41-year-old great-great-granddaughter of Henry Ford takes over Aug. 1 as executive vice president in charge of global brand marketing at Ford Motor Credit Co.
Since 2005, Elena Ford has been director of North America product marketing, planning and strategy. In that job, she helped develop future Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. She joined Ford in 1995, working in truck brand communications.
Elena Ford has held at least six other jobs over the years, including stints as Mercury group marketing manager, director of business strategy for international automotive operations and posts within the company's Internet marketing operations.
Ford Motor Credit is one of the few parts of the company that is profitable. The unit posted net income of $193 million in the first quarter, down from $248 million in profit in the first quarter of 2006.
Part of Elena Ford's new job is to develop and carry out incentive programs for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles as well as Ford's Premier Automotive Group brands.

I have to add that if I were to buy a new car today, there isn't a single reason thing that would intrigue me into visiting a Mercury store.

altough ford has released te interceptor (which has rave reviews as long as it will go intoproduction) i doubt that mercury would step up and build the new marauder...
ford is in a cliff jump right now. i think they need to stop producing so many dang mustang variants, especially ones that cost 40k+ and put the money towards a new showstopper intead of mustang bodykits and engine packages.
the new taurus- worn out name with an ugly new redisign (still a bad 500) and the taurusX- not a chance in hell
build mercury up to compete with chrysler, or at least pontiac. put sporty rear wheel back nito play, like GM has taken note of and is changing all of pontiac over to. build a new cougar and for god sake, please, make it with the intentions of the old one, a more civil and luxurious, but still tire smoking, mustang/ camaro/ new challenger competetor. makle it the year round sports car.
the marauder should come in a 4 and 2 door variant and should keep with the old slogan, "Rebel with a cause." it should compete with the new audi s5, infiniti g37, (both being offered in a 2 and 4 door model, and the 350z. it could go beyond another ford carryover, which usually adds a new grill and leather, and would have its own image. mercury needs a flagship, and as in the 60's they went to the marauder name and racing, which they need to do again.
lincoln, ive lost hope... seats can only be so soft. it doesnt mean it can compete

Well, for sure there is no Marauder for 2008 as production for the 2008 Grand Marquis started May 7th... The is not even a LSE package, so the bucket seats and floor shift are most likely out of the system... With Crown Vic fleet only now there is no LX Sport there either, I believe.. So, more than likely, the current Panther Platform is destined to continue shrinking, until production starts on the Town Car again, this time in STAP, as Wixom is now closed. December will tell the tale...I would be a buyer of a Marauder type package on a Town Car...the sleeper image for me..

We would be rare still, its not like they are going to be producing more 2003-2004 MM.... it would be a new model that if successful would bring more appreciation and value to our cars. people would open their eyes and go dang, i wish i would have bought one of those when i could have, those cars are awesome. go produce the new MM!

I'm not impressed with any current Lincolns (the MKZ is a big step backwards from the LS, in my opinion...though the MKX does have a nice interior and I like the grille treatment, it's trapped in a strange ovoid body...) But I absolutely loved the MKR concept. Build that and we'll talk!! And while I'm not drooling over the MKS, it is an attractive car that seems to be a step in the right direction.

You know I went on the mercury website today and they said the 2008 marauder will be on the market this fall. They had two pictures the sedan and convertible. I been hearing this for awhile and judging by your posts, I see ya'll are more skeptical than I am. It is hard to believe why would they introduce a vehicle that they practically gave away the last months of 2004.
I guess I will be wise and not judge. I will take a wait and see approach.

The 2007 Lincoln Towncar went out of production on May 31st, 2007.
It's estimated that as of October 15th, 2007 nearly all dealers will be out of Towncar inventory. When the 2008 Towncar goes into production at St. Thomas sometime in January, 2008 it will be mostly for fleet customers although dealers may place orders for their retail customers. The 2008 Towncar will not be available with a moon roof or navigation system.

I Think Its B/s But Wait And See.
Has anyone seen the MKS spy photos on Car and driver's web site?
I think that the MKS is the new town car. Looking at the photos of the inside you can see alot of the panther design in the dash: the guages (that look like the 2007 crown vics), the trim piece in the center (where the clocks used to be on the panthers), the radio placement, and vents. If the MKS is the Town Car replacement, then the Interceptor is the Vics replacement; but looking at the photos of the MKS, I think that the new vic will look like the 427 concept. I guess we will find out in January at the NAIAS.

You're new to the internet, eh? Its not a hoax per se. That is what is called a "feeder site". All it has is ads. No content of its own. Notice too that when you click on Mercury it ONLY shows the MM? Where are all the legitimate new models?
Stick to the manufacturer and/or car rag sites. You're more likely to see real cars there.

You are the fat (so called police officer) who do not know how to spell and got your specs all wrong on the crown victoria (in which people on this site quickly list other specs the crown victoria had which you were totally ignorant about). That is why I said, you did not know what you were talking about. And get rid of your marauder, because marauders are for classy people in which by your nasty postings, you lack. Leave me alone. If you don't like what I post, then don't respond. Can't you keep your trap shut for one day without pissing on someone's shoes? If you were truely part of the brotherhood, you wouldn't ever attack another LEO, and you sure wouldn't use stereotypes that could easily apply to you as well, genius.
As for English class? Let's take a look at your own posting there, Hemingway.
Generally, we use things called capital letters on titles and names (as in Crown Victoria and Mercury Marauder), we use proper hyphens ("so-called") and contractions (you're, not your), we don't use street Ebonics ("who do not know how to spell"), and we use proper punctuation (no misplaced semicolons). Lastly, people with a grasp of the language write sentences that actually make sense (is he supposed to get rid of the classy people he lacks? How does he lack classy people?). Plus we don't use run-on sentences.
Nobody wants to intimidate you. Actually, nobody wants to have anything to do with you. It's just too easy to prove you wrong. Go to an import board, or beaterz.com...they'll believe your "Police Package Marauder" story. Heck, they might even make you their king!
Again I must tell you, just saying you're a police officer doesn't actually MAKE you one. It's all about reason, logic and control, all of which you lack. You'd never last a month if you actually wore a badge....OR...you could prove me wrong by...oh nevermind...I already tried that with you and you proved yourself a coward. I didn't do near a full-pull. Spent about 7 years in various federal service, moved to film biz as a tech advisor for police actions, now in transport for them. The money offered was amazing, and I can now serve my active duty friends better by rerouting policy changes from the "public advocacy" side of things. New federal policies were watering things down far too much, and I wasn't about to be compromised in my unit by any chairborne ranger.
Loved the work, but think I entered about 15 years too late! Things aren't what they used to be liability-wise.

I see you are back again and silly as ever. If you want nothing to do with me (and you are the national spokesman for the over 3,500 MM members of this website) then do me a favor (do like you said, don't have anything to do with me) I will be happy. You know something, everytime formula marauder says something (and I shut him up) you jump in to his aid. You two must have something more going on other than driving marauders.
I will let you in on a little secret, I have a MM and had it for about three years. I just joined this website a week ago. And I have chated with and met alot of outstanding MM owners (I guess they are not following your orders). This website or the people on it does not certify me a as a marauder owner, my title I have do. And don't be angry because I chose not to share my specs with you.
Or prove to you and formula marauder who I work for, because quite frankly it none of yours (and his) business.
If it is still burning you and formula marauder up so bad about me, give me (and formula marauder's) first and last
name and nearest airport and I will purchase the tickets to fly you two down to Texas so I could see what your (and his) problem really is.

Man, how can you people be so nasty to each other? Everyone has opinions and likes to state them. So what if someone gets specs wrong about a vehicle? It's not like everyone knows everything about everything?! I thought we were here to learn and share stories about Marauders, even if you don't have one fo your own.
Is it a requirement that everyone on here HAS to have one? If so, then I need to leave because I don't own one, I just happen to date a guy who does.
Who cares what people do for a living? Unless you happen to own or work in the automotive or electrical industry, why would job title matter to a car club? It's not like some guy in another state/country far away is going to effect you because of what he/she does for a living.
If you can't say something :censor: nice to a fellow "brother/sister" then you shouldn't open your mouth period, especially if you know what they do for a living and you happen to work in the same field. You should all be ashamed. :mad2:
I LOVED going to Marauderville V. It was the first time I have ever been to a goup meeting for car lovers. I don't normally do anything of that nature because I normally don't have anything to talk about with people older than me (I'm 23) and when I find that I am with a large group of people, I find that some people don't like other people and.... the arguements begin. :shake: Why would anyone want to associate with people who have nothing better to do than argue and ruines a good time.

Heya Surf,
Thanks for the email. I agree with all your points, fully and completely. But please understand that police wannabes and impersonators really get the hackles up of anyone who's actually worn a badge, and that's the problem with this poster (or poseur) Smithe. Check his other posts, he got pummeled by other members last time for spewing nonsense. The posts speak for themselves.
Opinions are varied and valid, and often lead to new insight. Therefore, I'm open to hearing them all. But to call B.S. when someone spreads B.S., has nothing to do with opinions. It's unfortunately a neccessary evil of keeping facts straight, and people honest.
I myself am new to Marauder ownership (only 4 weeks) but have driven Panthers for work over the last 8 years or so. People here gave me great advice about what to look for, and what to expect when going MM shopping.
I sincerely hope you take alot of good information from this site, just realize that where ever you go, there will be people who don't feel secure enough to be themselves. They'll tell you things about who they are and why they have something better and different than everyone else. Ask them to prove it, and they'll deny they need to. Questioning opinions is welcome and even healthy, but if you state something as fact, you should be prepared to back it up. I don't think that is too much to ask, and it's all I've actually asked for. Hopefully this clears up any confusion in the tone of my posts. Thanks for keeping us accountable!

SurfrsotherToy,
Well said, I like you just joined the website about a week ago. And your right we should all just get along unfortunately, that is not possible all the time. I don't start things, but I am not going to let anyone talk to me like trash either (Tamien hasn't learned that yet). We all have marauders and that is a good thing and do I like to clean it up and cruise around the town? Of course I do (Boy! but I open it up on the highway). Sometimes you have to ignore some people like Tamien (check his post about accountability) I offered to pay for his ticket to come down to Texas to see my car and who I work for and I have got is his typical childlish response. So I tell you what, let's lead by example, you keep cruising in your marauder and I will do the same. I guess I (like you)thought that things was different when we signed up on this website. However, you have to be prepared to fight your battles anywhere and I am prepared to do that.
Toy,
Don't let dum%^s comments of a few ruin the positive outlook of the new.

Smithe...I'm not sure about all the police stuff, but you did mention that you saw pics of a 2008/2009 Marauder. I'd like to see that but I can't seem to find it....can you re-link?
Thanks

Greetings,
So GLAD I tuned in for the latest on the 2008/2009 MM!!!! NOT!
Ye gads!!! Pls help me understand how a thread can degenerate so badly in less than 24 hours!
And OBTW, I have a special greeting for 2 extraordinary memebers Smithej450 and Taemian -- Hi to both of you from a long-time MM.net member and proud owner of 2 MMs. Here is the SPECIAL PART -- Get Along NICELY with one another or GET Along (as in get gone)! I left once before because of a lot of name calling and BIT#%ING and I am vowing to stay this time regardless, but, this time I have the MODERATORS on my side and will see to it that you BEHAVE NICELY or be banned for life. It is your choice.
Personally, I don't have time for petty B...S... Whatever one does to earn a living in North America, is fine by me as long as it is honest and ethical. I don't talk about my job or my employment. And I don't try to be something I am not.
Now, back to our normally scheduled thread, thank you. Does anyone have REAL updates for this thread?

Smithej450,First of all welcome to the website.Feel free to use the search for anything your not sure of.I just talked with Steve Babcock at the Woodward Dream Cruise last month(You do know who he is right?) and he made it clear that they will be no Marauder in the future from any platform. Not to say that it cant change some day but as far as 08-09 It ain`t happening. Also there were never any "Police package" Marauders that came from the factory.Any Marauder owner who is worth his salt knows this. All Marauders that work for Police agency`s were set up after they left the Factory. Now back in `02 there was a 4.6 4V Crown Vic that Ford tested but it never panned out even though it did well in tests.

I remember you formula marauder,
Ignorant (so cops like you) already us a bad name.
Do you think you are a cop smithe?
I deal with many Ford project engineers from Dearborn daily. None have heard anything about a new Marauder. All the news is the twin turbo Lincoln MXS and other pilot twin turbo Fords they've been testing.

Bruteforce, maskiing and fastblackmerc,
That website mercuryvehicles.com that was posted was not that website. When I return to work thursday I will back track to that website I was searching at the job and provide it.
Fastblackmerc, take a powder and quit being a as#h**e.

Freakstatus,
I learn through (Brutforce) that was just a feeder site. I don't think they will make marauders anymore...and then again they might. I really don't know.
Thanks

In the future, please refrain from attacking other members. I know of few quicker ways to have yourself a "vacation". This thread has more BS in it than a Texas stockyard. You will find that the members here are the most informed people in the world regarding the MM. It would behoove you to sit back and use the search function before you post as an authority on anything regarding the Mercury Marauder. Most everything has been covered here at one time or another. The search button is your friend please make use of it.
