try it out and let us know how it works for you, i think that bouncing it off the rev limiter before you slam it in will help make it interesting

:) You are right I had a mustang. but was the stopping not the going that caused the early demise of that car.. But really, I was just wondering if the ecm would shut down the fuel before it went in to gear. Last year I rented a dodge charger and thats what happend it was like the computer would not let you abuse the car. Maybe it had some sort of rental tune on it or something. very disappointing

Doing that's really not what I'd classify as "abuse". That's more like what I'd classify as "stupidity".
I'm willing to bet that even Motorhead350 wouldn't do that.;)

There's more fun ways to abuse your car.... hey that gives me a thread idea!!

Driving like that really messes up the tranny. Most racers don't even rev that high cause they would constantly be buying trannys or bearings or etc. Revving that high with no load, then applying the load of the trans, driveshaft, and rearend, OH and the weight of the car is a lot of strain on parts that should not be subjected to this kind of abuse. But try it. You'll be back with a new tread that ask. "How Much Is It To Fix This".

I have tried it and it's completely safe, but don't stop at 5,000 RPM's. Make sure you are pushing 400 hp to the rear wheels then manually press the NOS button and engage the trans a 7,000 RPM's. If you don't get the desired results try it again. It's a blast dude, but you may need to change your name to "Hadamarauder"

That used to be called a Neutral Drop. And since the '70s you could not do that with a Ford transmission. Believe me, I've tried. I'm not sure how it worked, but there was somethjing that would prevent the tranny from engaginig until it dropped below a certain RPM. I don't know if the newer Ford trannys are the same way, but I would assume they are. Now GM on the other hand, had no such thing. You could put your foot to the floor for several seconds, then yank the lever into drive. The object was to see if you could get the wheels to spin. Some cars still couldn't spin the wheels, though you might get a chirp. I don't remember if MOPARs could do it or not.

My friends 3 series BMW has a lock out. He was a little tipsy one night and decided a neutral drop and a burnout were in order. He reved it up against the limiter and it would allow the trans to be shidted into drive.
He also tried power braking it and that was also a failed attempt.

Neutral dropping in a automatic? BWAHAHA

Even a bone stock marauder can do a power brake burnout.

Motorhead just passed the torched finally lol.

Not a rental tune. Dodge Chargers are like that because they are very delicate. ;) :D

Subaru guys do this all the time. Then they complain that their gears get stripped and the Subaru says no warranty it is abused.

Yes! Just Do It!

Let us know how it 'works out'!!!

I'm sure the extremely long driveshaft and the 4R70W tail shaft housing will soak up the abuse without a problem!

Give it a try!!!

Yep! I know for a fact that a 1968 302V8/C4 equipped Ford LTD (fake woody) Country Squire wagon will BARELY light the tires when a crazed teenager (;)..) Neutral drops the screaming smallblock at 5500 rpm!:D

Yes Mopars could do a neutral drop, I think I did it once when I was 17, and it was once too many. Broke the drivers side engine mount on my fathers Coronet 440 power braking the car......oh no wait it was making that banging noise when I took the car from him.;)

as the former owner of an 88 iroc, i can testify this is trie however, there is NO REASON to do so. i did, beofre it blew up (key words in this post) and the tranny was slipping a little afterwards. yes the car was 18yrs old at the time but still, it sucked the next few months. i always regretted doing it because it was a useless beating. the shifting into second gear doing a burnout, well worth it, the smoke was awesome:P. and it was the last day of school.

the best camera angle would be from the side pointing under the car, that way you could review the tape to help locate all the parts that come shooting out

I think the factory tune has Park/Neutral gear Rev-Limiter which won't even let you rev to 5k. This can even be lowered with a cutom tune. I have mine set at 3.5K
