i went to the infamous Jiffy Lube the other day and got the oil changed in my work truck, they also did an "engine flush" for about 80bucks. does anyone know if this is a real help to the vehicle or did i waist 80 dollars? it seems the truck rides a little smoother but it could be in my head. they also said i should get a fuel system flush for about 70bucks, whats the deal with that? is it worth it?

ya all been had for both of the "procedures". The oil change with a coupon should have been no more than $19.95... Lots of FOMOCO dealers run oil change specials with genuine Ford Filters and MotorCraft semi synthetic oil for $15.95 here in VT and don't try to hose you with unnecessary toilet (flush)...

they probubly told you to check your muffler bearing also ( lol thats so corny but i love it) jiffy lube is only good for one thing......convenient oil changes ( if they even do that right)

I am an ASE Master Tech and work at a GM dealership. First why would you ever go to a Jiffy Lube? Find a good local repair shop if you don't want to go to the dealer, generally they are locally owned and operated, have far less turn-over in help and will get to know your name. Second, I could never recomend an "engine flush" on a vehicle with any kind of mileage on it. Essentially they are dumping in a very thin oil like tranny fluid, or even something worse a kerosene based flush that is hell on worn bearings. Some services such as "brake flushes" and "power steering" flushes are not gimmicks but often overlooked maintenance items. Brake fluid is hydroscopic and the heat in modern power steering systems is very high. If it sounds like a load of crap then don't buy it. You can always get it done later after checking that procedure out.
