How could I tell? It was Red.
No pics, of course, possesion of a camera on company property is gounds for unemployment. It had the light grey interior, dark torreador red exterior and everything else the same as '03.
I saw it from a bit of a distance as it left the gas pumps, it was cloudy and car needed a wash. In any case, my first impression of the color: not as good as I had hoped.
When I think of torreador red, I think of the bright metallic color I see on some current Explorers. This color was darker, and didn't seem to have any metallic in it. I keep wanting to describe it as a maroon color, but that's not quite it either. Definately darker and less "bright" than I expected.
I can't wait to see more of this color. Hopefully my opinion will improve.
Notice to the South-East Michigan Members: Keep your eyes open. This car is in Deaborn so SOMEBODY can drive it. It will be around, and I'd like some more opinions on the color.

This was as close as I could find on the Toreador Red...
http://www4.forddirect.fordvehicles.c om/img/colors/FSD032xl_shift_tdrrd.jpg
Or go to Ford's website and "build your own"...the Toreador Red is offered on the F-250SD, the F-350 and the ZX2...
Just remember folks...when the first "spy-shot" of the Blue was posted here...we all went :puke:
Now that we've seen it...most all of us like it. Hopefully the red will do the same. Frankly, I'm glad it's a "darker red"...otherwise...you COULD get mistaken for the Fire Chief (not that there's anything wrong with that engine23ccvfd)

My 2000 Mountaineer was Toreador Red, and it's a real purdy color all shiney in the sun. But, it can look blackish at night too.

this is just my opinion, but couldn't someone just have done some custom work to their marauder, and you thought it was an '04 because it was different, i mean you said it was dirty, and i wouldn't have a '04 car dirty already.
???? i didn't think they were coming out with an '04 marauder????

The 04 isn't going to be visable different from the 03, other then colour. Blue is being dropped for the Red. As for dirty, one rain during a test drive, and it's dirty.

^^^what he said^^^
And yes, there WILL be an '04, just not an '05 or '06...
at least that's the game plan as of TODAY...next year, who knows...

Ford used Toreador Red on the Crown Vics/Grand Marquis
from 1996 to 2000.....and Dark Toreador Red on some Lincoln
Models during this period. The Dark Toreador Red is the
better choice for the Marauder, remember the door pillars
on MM are the same color as the body, not black like on the
Grand Marquis until the recent model change.(now they are the same color like the MM). A real bright red might be TOO MUCH RED for this car! I take it the only black on this car will be the grill?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I work for Ford. The car had an M-Plate and was at the company gas pumps. Probably on its way to the car wash. I spied it as I left the Dynamometer building (my 2nd office) on Monday Morning.
I'm pretty sure it was a Pilot '04, brought back for some kind of testing. But I'm sure it won't sit in a company lot all night. Someone's driving it home...
BTW-Hack Goby. After seein' all yor pics from Wild Woody's, I'm really trying to work it in to one of my Sunday Schedules.

Notice the mirror caps are still black?
I think the mirrors AND the grill should be "color-keyed". JMHO

I do too, I'm just pointing this out to everyone so they may realize that this isn't EXACTLY what the red MM will look like. It's merely a computer generated image, not an actual picture of the red MM itself.

That red is "more red" than the car I saw. As I said, seemed more maroon...
Just think, come September, we'll be able to stop by the dealership and look for ourselves.

I had pointed to some pix of my '97 SHO earlier, so that people could get a rough idea as to what Toreador red looks like. After looking at those pictures again, something hit me hard. My SHO, 6 years old and with 70k miles on it, STILL had paint that was in better shape than my 03 Marauder is today. These complaints about the quality of the MM's paint are not BS. This paint job sucks.

Looked at the DTR MM in Nevada today. The Grill is the same as the body color and looks great. Waiting until Dec. to buy, as the moonroof should be available then. The '04 now has a shorter overhead console and will not intefere with a moonroof. We are hoping for the dark interior to be available, as it will look better than the light.
