Latest update:
They are ordering a new steering wheel, the leather was coming unwrapped on the back side.

With enough pressure they are going to start replacing things on the front left brake. It has had a caliper that hangs up since I got it. This is the second time I have had it in for this and told them to fix it or keep the car; the first time they told me that was normal wear! I drive 50 miles and the rim is black from brake dust.

They read the TSB on the axel that Sarge was kind enough to post, however on a test drive they didnt hear anything and won't just do it because....I was hoping to get that taken care of before putting in the 4.10's to be on the safe side.

They plan on doing the pcm reflash tomorrow, along with an extensive multi-point inspection, what ever that is!

They are still stumped by the flickering gauge lights, same as last time.

And to top it all off, they stuck me with a new Lincoln Towncar Executive for a loaner, can you believe the nerve.

Make them do the inspection of the axels. Don't just let them "listen" for noise.

are you guys sure that a 2/03 build date would not have the axle TSB??

I don't want to go to the doctor if I'm not sick rationale, who knows what else they would find??

A Lincoln TownCar for a loaner? They must've been temporarily out of Sables.LOL Actually the TC isn't so much the boat it used to be,they've really tightened it up.
Good luck getting all the fixes done in this trip in.

Hmmm...Makes me rethink the problems others here have expressed about a steering pull, both to left and to right, with tire pressure and alignment within OEM specs.

Whoops...Maybe our collective "diagnostics" talent finally blew it all out our collective azzes? A dragging brake pad or stuck piston will cause this "pull," yes? And none of us caught that or mentioned it here before. Sorry, Dave...

Well, I am hoping for the best here, Dave, that the dealer can come to hear something, or, just play like that on your behalf. However, the TSB I posted is specific on build dates, this is/was a problem that was corrected on the production line. What is your build date again, Dave?

Apparently, so are we. I'm on my second MM, both 300A builds, and I have not seen these "flickering" lights as they have been described here. Maybe I'm just lucky, or, blind. I don't do a lot of night time driving myself because I'm a "day guy." But, I've not noticed any loss of electrical power in any form, in two MMs now. I've even gone as far as to monitor my electrical system with a CarChip EX, and not found anything I can speak of here.

I did have one warranty episode while traveling out of state, which came to be a loose wire on the alternator harness, at the alternator, which was quickly repaired. That did cause a low power warning light on the dash and I could see it in the voltmeter, so I suspect this was a more immediate problem, and one solved. Still, long term use of two MMs, "flickering" hasn't occureed here.

Best of luck to you Dave, hang in there...

Interesting brake story. My right front wheel causes severe brake dust anger in me no more than 50 miles or so after a wash, left front just fine. Crown has honeycomb wheels on it, they don't look as bad as the Marauder right front after they've had a couple hundred miles from a wash.

Huh.

My build date is 06-05-02, and i couldnt hear anything wrong with my axles prior to the discovered "problem".

I have experienced the flickering light thingie, and it has lessened over time. I think it has to do with the photosensor in the dash which regulates the interior lighting. I could be wrong, and not thinking clearly...

Actually the dash lights do dim when the interior darkens and brighten back up when the car comes back out in the sun. This must be the "flickering" problem people are referring to.

Nope.Turn on the lights when it's dark outside.Turn on the AC and with the car at idle look at the Autometer gauges. You'll see them flicker and dim.If you pay close attenton you will note that the flicker matches with the change in electrical load of the ac compressure cycling.
I know a member of this board put some high dollar volt meters on the wires going to the gauges and said theres no votage flux
well we got a saying in the aircraft avionics world " we don't fly the test bench".

The fix is easy but your, and my,dealer will not do it.
Raise the idle about 100rpm!
Test it for yourself from idle press the throttle very lightly, presto no more flicker!

Good luck with the steering wheel...I have had one on order for three weeks.

My lights only flicker when I turn the dash light level dial to below a certain point. Problem is I like a near blacked out dash and the flicker kills me so I have to go to about half power.

The car does idle 100 RPM to slow for everything especially the AC in heavy stop and go traffic the AC simply will not keep a car cool in the summer.

I was talking about the dash gauges, especially the stereo - they dim in the dark and brighten up in the light.

Check to make sure the steering wheel is the right color before they install it. We have heard two cases where a lighter color one than original was installed. I fixed my own steering wheel with contact cement instead of taking the chance on getting one the wrong dang color.

Basically I had a very interesting couple of days with the Dealer. For starters:
1. They replaced the steering wheel completely. It isnt the first one they have replaced where the leather is becoming separated on the backside.

2. Began by replacing the caliper pins and turning the rotor. They think this will solve the "hanging caliper" problem. They were very emphatic that if the problem continues, they will dig deeper and figure it out.

3. Reflashed the computer. Resolved the cold stumble and hesitation. Appears to be more responsive under hard accelleration.

I want to make it clear I now have a sympathetic service write up guy that goes out of his way to get things done. He introduced me to the Heavy repair mechanic that does engines, transmissions, and rear ends. That was an interesting conversation...turns out that Lidio does the chip programming on his strip mustang. Small world eh?! Basically they will work with me even after the car is supercharged and do the best to get any work covered under warranty if at all possible. They didnt have the chance to check the axles, but said I could bring it in anytime and they would be happy to inspect it. I am going to run another post for owners in South East Michigan and who to talk to at the dealership to get things done. They will do gears and warrenty them, along with other things. All in all the best time I have had at the service department ever. The loaner girl was going to give me a Sable, and the service adviser jumped in and told her that I was dropping off a marauder, and someone with that kind of taste deserves a towncar!! Stu Evans really got my attention this time and deserves some credit.

Wow. They have a loaner girl? How long do you get to keep her? All my dealership does is give me a lousy car to use while mine is in the shop...
