Anybody using one of these? Where is the best placement on our MM steering wheel? Are they legal these days? Etc., etc., etc. ....

These are the same as a "suicide" knob correct? I think they're still illegal. And, why would put one on your MM?

Anyone care to enlighten those of us who don't know what this knob is? We have some sort of spinning knob on our tractor that helps us turn it faster in tight spots, is that the same thing?:help::help:

Yes it's the same thing.
I agree - best placement is in the trash!

For those who don't know, these knobs were used back in the days before power steering. The knob is used to help give a little extra leverage turning the big steering wheel. They were also popular in the '50's as a cool accessory. They can still be bought today from anyone seeling 50's nostalgia stuff. Many companies will put anything you want on the face of the knob for a personal touch. Some people used to have pin up girls on the face or a skull, a beer brand, or your car's brand.
But with today's quick power steering units, they are not necessary.

Legal if your doctor can provide a reason on why you should have one. It is usually an endorsement added to your license, just like corrective lenses. If you use one and you dont have an endorsement, its a violation.. Your state may vary but its considered in some to be a medical aid..

I have one that I got out of a Taurus wholesale vehicle at work. I've had it for a while and was on a few of my former Panther platform vehicles. The clamps are too small to go around our thick grip steering wheel unless part of it is cut off. I might check one of those "Mobility" places and see if they make larger clamps for mine.

We used to stock a few of them at the Western Auto when I worked there in the '60s. It was more of a novelty item. Can't say that I ever saw anyone buy one of them.
I learned how to parallel park on a '62 Chevy BelAir station wagon. After that, anything with power steering was a breeze. :D

Funny but up here in NY, they are not known as a "Neckers Knob"..
They are given a less trendy name which escapes me at the moment.. :)

So, it looks as though the answers to my original questions are:
"No."
"In the trunk."
"Probably not."
Thanks for the responses. My curiosity is satisfied.

I always wanted one with a skull for the knob - matches some of the other trim pieces.
I just really can't bring myself to clamp one on the leather wrapped wheel!
I guess that's a good thing.....
