Here is our latest project, Ford wrench sent us the customer we got the car last month, with a locked up motor, the car is a immaculate 03 Blue with 35 K on the clock, the owners suspect he possibly filled the car with bad gas and it heavily detonated it at WOT and the motor seized. Upon tear down and inspection we found the oil pum gears shatered the rods were froze to the crank it did not hurt the block, so it can be used over. I had a spare block here and heads so I sent those heads to Ron at Fox lake for the full massage they are a work of art, the short block went out to the builder and we are having a cobra steel crank Manly rods and 10/1 pistons installed along with ARP main and head studs, I will post motor pictures and build up later and the dyno sheet he wanted to stay N/A so that is why we went with the 10/1 pistons.

Dennis, did he have under drive pullies?
Yes Ray he did, and he had shorties headers, but I want every body to know I honestly do not feel its related the under drives had been on the car for over a year, these were Steeda UDP, and the owner was on the interstate and dropped the hammer and the car rattled real bad he also had a ProAm air meter with large cone filter, I doubt if the AF had ever been checked on the car, but it will before it leaves here. Detonation will travel from the rod and travel down the crank right to the oil pump.

Thanks for sharing...I learn alot when you guys "show and tell"...Thanks again...ALOHA
You dont need a fancy oil pump if you know what detonation sounds like.
It is $300 of good insurance, though.
Barry has you beat...

Let me ask a basic question. I have seen more marauder motors completely fail with fewer than 100k miles then ANY other modern (newer) car.
When a Marauder gets bad gas, so do hundreds of other cars that filled at the same station and trust me the rest of the cars are not breaking down left and right like our DOHC 4.6.
What's the deal? Why are our engines so weak?
Oh, and why should I know what detonation sounds like? Shouldn't my knock sensor(s) know what it sounds like? I guess that ours are deaf.
The best way to describe it is like a can of marbles being shaken around.

Good advice. Thank you.
My main question is why aren't our knock sensors kicking in when there is detonation?

The knock sensor table can only retard timing so much, and if you are at WOT with the radio on or windows down what ever, you may not hear it in time, I will either install billet or cryo treated gears, as I said the modular motor is a very good motor with unique design, the oil pump is mounted and driven off the front crank shaft, right where the detonation is transmitted, even race engines are destroyed if not set up right, a lean condition or to much timing can destroy the best engine built, so when you are building a good engine spend the money its well worth the investment.

I had bad gas a couple of months ago while in Hagerstwon
Not to change the subject, but since MVV is in Hagerstown, who are we to avoid buying gas from?

I have psoted before since Katrina most of the gas was bad, then all of it.
Finally I found good gas a local Chevron station, can't make it knock.
I pull up all the pumps are closed, there is a tanker and a tank testing truck.

Thats got such a good ring to it :D
Im gonna have a new name tag made up today.

I purchased my bad gas at Exxon near the Hagerstown Outlets. The gas station near the track has been good to me for years. I don't think race gas will be available at the track the day of the event.

Thanks Merc. My DTR hates Exxon anyway. Any Sunoco or Hess in the area?

I love the GPS navigation feature of my new Pivot phone. You can search for gas stations by price and octane from your current location. Pretty cool for traveling!

Well we have the short block back we went 20 over with ten to one with good pistons steel crank Manly rods ARP head studs.

The whole rotating assembly was balanced, were installing a high volume oil pump, we are pitting it back together N/A with UDP a SCT B2800 and a mezirie electric water pump along with shorties and a X pipe I will post more pictures later.
