While cruising to work this morning I hit the off ramp and had some nugget trying to get onto the freeway doing about ten MPH cut me off...Now I was doing a good 60MPH so I slammed on the breaks, heard that terrific pavement chirping, and then the lovely burnt rubber smell.

I was very impressed with the cars ability to handle well in panic mode. I had a little lateral slide as I turned the wheel to avoid the collision. Having driven caprice and CV PI's when I was a cop I can assure you this car although a little heavier stops better.

I would be curious to go look at my skid marks as I had the feeling the car did such a violent nose dive my rear wheels lost alot of grip and caused some chirping as the wheels for lack of a better term bounced along the rode.

Stay Safe,

Andy

ABS brakes doing their job. I'am glad you were able to aviod the other car. Good job.

I find the brakes a little mushy under normal circumstances, but in a panic stop (which I've experienced once so far) the "panic assist" feature and the other electronic gizmos seem to work really well - it has a solid, controlled feel to it under hard braking.

There's a way I've found to trick that panic assist thing to make the pedal feel a little better. Kinda like doing a little pump of the brakes, as you would do with an older disc/drum setup. If you do it quick enoph (and light enoph), you'll feel more pedal come in without jerking the car so much that you feel it.

Truth be told I didnt feel the pedal just my skinny ass sliding forward on the freshly cleaned and conditioned leather seat....Belt snugged in me pretty good across the chest.....Its hard for me not to pump the brakes since I learned how to drive on a non-ABS vehicle.

All things considered I would rather panic stop the MM over a 70,000LBS pumper. Did a panic stop in it one time and it doesnt stop very quickly!

Be glad you weren't in a police package Intrepid... your rotors would be a-flamin'!
