Hi everybody? Like My sig says I have a 2003 MM 300a that has a Trilogized-base kit @ 10psi. When I first got the car I took it to the track and ran it to see if it would even break into the 14,s (skeptical). Anyway I lined up against a black Dodge Neon Srt4. I did not think nothing of it (I did not at the time know what an Srt4 was.) Anyway I ate him out of the hole (but I had to let off a little bit as I was spinning) so I get down to the finish line and I look in my rearview mirror to see whsere he was and nothing was there, so I looked in my side view mirror and he was only a car length behind. We both ran 103mph, Too make a long story short I found out he worked at the same place I did. He told me that the Srt4 runs a turbo@7psi.
His tires were like grease he either under revs it at the starting line or overrevs and blows his tires away. So we later tried a 20 mile an hour rolling start and we were neck and neck up to 140mph. I would have liked to run him if he would have had some stickier tires. So FWIW beware the Srt4's

The SRT-4 was marketed as the fastest car under 20k. 260hp and 280 tq. Watch out.

They wiegh in at next to nothin and with a turbo they are down right fast. And that is just stock. I'm waitng to see what he does next to see if he can blow me away.. Makes me want to go out and buy one so I don't have to beat mine up to out run a four banger and abuse my expensive MM.:D

I'm waiting to see how the Caliber SRT does. It's supposed to have 300hp.

Their quick cars when worked but in stock form their good from a dead stop but on a roll exposes their weakness. Most "kids" get the Mopar Stage 1 upgrade kit, a larger BOV and dump the rear section exhaust or put in a test pipe (cat less). Around here I've seen them run low 11's to high 14's.

Odd. Every one I've come up against was slow...

My brother has an SRT-4. He's putting out 310 hp at the wheels. He's got quite a few mods on it. He's running high 11s in that pocket rocket.

I toasted my friend's stock one from a roll. From a dig he got me until until I hit 2nd going into 3rd. He now has a Stage 3 kit on there, and yes it is pretty quick.

The srt-4 is the best little rocket for the bucks. Low weight, high power potential, lsd, and for a FWD it still puts power to the wheels. It is a sleeper in a unorthodox suit. But insurance for those things is higher than that of a mustang GT.

A good driver can get one into the high 13s at OVER 100MPH, if someone thinks that is slow for a 20k car, they are NUTS! Unfortunatly, most people can't drive them as I have seen one run low 15s (to the guys credit though, he had it to low 14s by the end of the night). Also, 03s had slightly less HP and no LSD, but all years are underrated (215 for 03 and 235 I believe for 04/05s). Basically many 03s have evet hit the 13s stock though.

Hey, anybody remember the Omni GLHS. People laughed at them till they got their ass kicked by one. At that time with a 4 cylinder it was unheard of to be in the 12's after just a little work.

Yes, those were badass little cars. I know when it was just GLH, it was referred to as Goes Like Hell from the designers, can't remember what the S meant though LOL.

I agree, but these cars were equivelant to todays ricers with the exception that they were domestic.

Ah, that's right. Honestly, my definition of a ricer does not include actual quick cars, IMHO, ricers are the base Civic DXs with fart cannons, big wings, and huge body kits, and around 90HP under the hood. IMHO, The GLHS, SRT-4, Evo, WRX, STi, etc, etc are NOT ricers. They have actual performance. The correct term for them is actually pocet rockets. big difference between a ricer and a pocket rocket.

I don't agree. A pocket rocket, is a freakin' street bike, not a vehicle. I like STi's myself, but it's still a ricer with a big ridiculous wing.

Actually a Jap bike is known as a "Croctch rocket"

I agree about the wing on the STI's, way too big. I think they wanted car to look different fromt he WRX's

Don't you mean crotch rocket when referring to street bikes.

It doesn't matter really, there are all sorts of names for them. To me, the pocket rocket description fits a street bike better than a car if you ask me. Pocket, because of the size of it, hence a street bike is tiny.

Stew

Actually Pocket rocket describes a small sporty car, it was origionally used when cars like the origional Civic Si came out and started to extend to all types of small sporty cars. Pocket because the small and rocket because for their time, they were or are quick with good handling. indeed the street bikes are referred to as crotch rockets.

I've still got the Shelby Charger GLHS I bought new in 87. Its not running right now though. Stock it went 0-60 in 6.9 sec and I took the KY Region SCCA solo 2 B stock class championship in 1993 and runner up in 92 and again in 94.
