I need to know because I think changing my belt will solve my problem. I was unbolting it, but I noticed the bolt was just coming out and the tension on the belt was the same. How do I releave tension from the belt?

You need a good ratchet or breaker bar to pull the tensioner back, then you can move the belt out of the way.
After that you can remove the mounting bolts and tensioner. Are you sure the tensioner is bad?

No I want to change the belt because I believe I got oil on it when I changed the oil out of the blower. I thought there was a way to ease the tension on the belt. I have seen it done with A/C belts on import cars, but I didn't know if this was the same case. So I have to pry the tensioner somehow to get it loose and swap it like that?

You don't need to remove the tensioner to change the belt. Don't take out any bolts.
Look at the tensioner. on the end with the idler pulley that contacts the belt, you'll see a square hole. That will fit your ratchet or breaker bar square end. Pull the arm back to relieve tension from the belt, then you can remove the belt form the pulley's
Make note of the belt routing first.

So I don't need to take off the blower to change the belt? I was told this.

I don't know I haven't seen your installation.
I would guess not but it is possible you do.

It's a Procharger and thats what the guys told me to do was to take off the air intake tube, release the tension on the belt, remove the blower and remove the belt. I don't know why I simply can't change the belt and thats it. I don't understand why I have to deal with the air intake and blower for this.

Probably for clearance, bracket in the way, etc.

Yes you have to remove the blower to change the belt. There is no way to get the belt off or on the blower pulley.

Alright thanks for the info. Can one person releave the tension or should I take it somewhere and get a second set of hands? I know you got number 19 right?

One person can do it but it's a real PITA to try to relive the tension and remove/install the belt at the same time.

Dom: You might have wanted to mention that little nugget o information when you were asking why you weren't making any boost. :shake:
Good lord.
If your car stops running be sure to let us know if you have any gas.
It is threads like these that make me miss Mac. He would have slapped your azz around pretty good.

Dennis Reinhart has a tool for reaching behind the blower to release belt tension without removing the blower. Give him a call. It would be wise for you to get one. Belt lash is common on centrifugals and if you drive it like you stole it, you'll be replacing the belt from time to time! :D

Martyo this is just a prediction and I didn't think of this at first. Yes it's very stupid if this doe solve the problem, but hey no one thought of this as being the problem either. I'll have to be more careful next time. Besides, Bradly G gave me a good slap over the phone. :o
Dont change the belt for god sake.
Get a few cans of brake cleaner, and spray it on the grooved side of the belt when the car is RUNNING.
Then soak a rag and PRESS it against the grooved side of the belt, a good spot is somewhere between the alternator and PS pump.
It will be good as new after this.

You know, I would be crapping bricks if I had to do that, isnt there a risk of getting the rag taken with the belt?

DO NOT PRESS THE RAG againest the grooved side of the belt WHILE THE ENGINE is RUNNING!
The easiest way to remove belt tension is to cut the belt.
Taking the car to carx is the best decision you have made.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.
ps You are one lucky guy to have an S/C Marauder at your age. Now act like you have been there.

Well this didn't solve the probelm. I changed the belt and that took 3 people the first time and 2 to change it back. With the new belt on this didn't solve a thing. Later the new belt broke so we put the old one back on and it's fine. Carx wouldn't help me because I had a belt from another company and they say they don't deal with aftermarket supercharged cars. I need to find someone to deal with this for me because I'm out of ideas and this is really making me angry. :mad2:

I've seen this attempted... not a pretty sight and I had to clean up the blood afterwards.
Make sure you count your fingers after doing this.
One of the most dangerous things I've ever heard on this board.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: :eek:
Remember, your telling Motorhead350 to do this.......
Ive done it more times than i can count.
Its no more dangerous than working on live electricity, just have to be experienced to do it safely.

The belt isn't the problem... or if it is, you can do this for me because if something like that must be done it's always best to watch someone do it the first time.

Its a procharger, there is almost NO mounting plate, and the tensioner is in plain sight, right hand breaker bar, left hand slides the belt off the waterpump
The Vortech needs the special tool

You have to remove the blower to change the belt!!
There is an idler mounted behind the plate with the far left mounting bolt (above A/C compressor)!!;)
I doubt the tensioner is the problem but they are fairly cheap so replace it too just to be safe??

I did NOT have to remove the blower when I changed my belt. I just loosen the blower bracket from the engine enough to sneak the belt around the blower pulley. I went with a shorter 106.5" belt and also installed a new tensioner to help reduce belt slippage. I believe the supplied belt is 107.3". It was a murtha to put on the shorter belt!!! I was only seeing about 8 lbs of boost before and now I see solid 10 at 6000 RPM.

My new smalled belt broke and I think I thought of what the problem is.
