Traded mine in over 3 months ago. Similiar equiptment, 31000 miles, new tires and dealer service just before the trade. I believe he still has it and has reduced the price to 18,800. Hope this helps.

Check www.kbb.com. You can also get a price from CarMax if there is one in your area.
I did a search on Edmunds.com, a car pricing site, and they have a lot of good tips on what the dealer looks at and for. The value of your car may vary from lot to lot with the same brand dealership. Read those tips, may save you not thousands but hundreds of dollars.
Edmunds lists the value of your car by zip code, so there may be a difference between where you live and where I live. Trade in value with the options you listed is $16.1K. Private Party is $17.8K. Dealer retail $19.3K.
It's been my experience that when a dealer gets a mint, stock, car they prep it a little and sell it as a certified used car. In this case $20.6K.
The minimum profit range the dealer looks for is $2.1K to $1.8K.
Good luck.

I think, also, it's important to consider what you're trading it for.
In other words, if it's a Lincoln Navigator, he's got more money to work with, and he's sitting on an albatross, to boot. On the other hand it's an MK-X, which is selling well, and may not have as much profit, built in, the dealer may not be as generous.
I guess the test here is, are you trading up, or down? :dunno:

It also depends on the dealer, we got 10 grand for our 03 yukon with 100k miles on it. Some dealers didn't give us that generous offer. Nuts to them

I would try to sell it myself, you will get more money than trading it in, go to autotrader and see what others are asking, I think there are only 50 04 marauders for sale and if yours is mint condition you can get some good money, both of the 04 marauders we have( one is mine, the other is my dads ) we bought it off autotrader and cars.com from individuals, and the experience was better than going to a dealer and haggling, you will be able to sell it, just stick to a reasonable price, remember the dealer might offer you below what blue book is, why do you think everyone is selling there cars on the internet, you keep the profit not the dealer.

Better off to sell it yourself. But nothing else compares so anything else is going backward.

Dumbass! There is no 2008 vehicle I would trade MY Marauder in for. Better yet.... there is no 2008 I would trade title for title. Blue book? Can you replace it? I didn't think so...... Sell it outright for no less than $25,000.

What vehicle are you thinking of trading it for?

As mentioned above, Kelly Blue Book >>> http://www.kbb.com is a good place to get an estimate.
My eyeball on "average" depreciation is below ..... but it only reflects my SWAG view of the MM world.

Bluerauder - Nice graph. I have been thinking that the curve will flatten out above $10,000 just because this is a niche car with collector value. Has anyone ever graphed the 94-96 Impala resale value to see if reached a plateau, or did it continue to decline similar to other cars?

Charlie, that's a nice graphic, and, most likely, very accurately reflects the market, nationwide.
It appears, though there's a trend for more precipitous fall in price, due, mostly, I'd guess, to high prices for premium fuel. There are many '03's with average mileage 40 - 60K going for $16,000, and under.
Don't forget, also, the asking prices for black ones are an extra premium.

I agree on gas prices reducing people's need to go out and find a fuel inefficient luxury-sports car, especially of the huge 4 door variety.

I just finished an 1,800 mile trip to-and-from Georgia in the wife's '06 Freestyle LTD. Her car gets 26.6 MPG on the highway. My MM gets 24.5 MPG. The total cost difference over the 9 day trip would have been $31.00 or about 2 cents per mile more to use the Marauder. That figure includes the 5.29 gallons more that the Marauder would burn and the cost differential between 87 and 93. In my book, that cost is insignificant.
Unless you are getting some "serious" gas mileage out of a smaller more fuel efficient vehicle, the extra cost won't even be noticeable. On the highway, the Marauder does darn good on MPGs even when flying. For an average cost of $3.44 per day, I'd rather be in a comfortable and safe Marauder than a fuel efficient tin can.
BTW -- I used the Freestyle on the trip just to keep the miles off the MM. :D It didn't have anything to do with $.

:agree:
Unless you want to drive one of the tiny tin can econo boxes the MPG these cars can get more than make up with comfort and safety. Besides after a long drive I like getting to my destination feeling like I didn't even drive.

A decent 1996 Impala SS with very low mileage costs as much or more now than it did when it was new. I've been looking for one for several years, and I refuse to pay what they are going for.

You guys will laugh but I am looking at the 08 Mariner AWD v6 premium. I would rather give up the Marauder then slid into something in the winter!! My blood pressure can no longer handle skating along the highway in the NE Ohio snow.(not to mention the *******s on the road up here)Remember all the idiots that don't know how to drive in Florida, learned how not to drive in OHIO!!! LOL
They offered 16k for it. It works out to about 17.2 in real money(including tax break). Best part is the will order the Mariner for me, so I get to drive her for six more weeks!!!!!!!!! :-)
That is if I pull the trigger, ok when :-(

Depreciation
30% first year.
10% per year there after.
Some cars vary but for trade in you never get the better price.

Most dealers are going to try to give you a thousand or two back of black book. That way, if they can't retail it fairly quickly, they can take it to the auction and make a buck.
Best way to find out what it's worth is to get a bid from CarMax and then substract the sales tax in your state from that. In other words, if CarMax offers you $16,000 and sales tax in your state is 6%, that is almost exactly the same as the dealer offering you $15,000 in trade.
Since there aren't too many really stupid dealers out there, if they know you're getting a bid from CarMax, they'll make a pretty darn good guess of what CarMax will offer you and take about half the sales tax rate off that figure--assuming they want your car at all. If they really don't want it, some dealers will tell you to go get a bid from CarMax.

That is if I pull the trigger, ok when :-(My '04 Marauder is paid for, and I can buy a helluvalot of gas for what a new car payment would be. Not only that, I want to be in a big car if one of those dummies slides into me on the snow or ice.
If I were to replace my car, it would be an '08 AWD Taurus or TaurusX (or the Mercury equivilant)
