Buy a new one.
Of all days this had to happen on Friday the 13th. Got in the car and started it up and noticed an odd whining noise coming from under the hood. I opened the hood and didnt notice anything unusual aside from the whining noise. At first I thought it was the power steering pump cuz the whining noise was identicle to the noise on a bad or leaking power steering pump.....I took it over to the dealer as I was on my way to a friends house so they could troubleshoot where the noise was coming from.
After 30 seconds of hearing the noise the service manager said that the blower had taken a crap and was damaged. Just to be sure we took off the belt and started her up and the noise was gone http://www.motorcitymarauders.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif now im getting wooried. Great Just My Luck... Now What????????
Over the past few days I have spoke to many people including JB and Chuck.Im at the point where I either have to buy a new blower or rebuild the one I have. I have heard that when a blower is rebuilt the rebuild kits come with stronger pieces than OEM and Im not sure if its true or not.I dont want to make the situation any worse than it already is especially by driving it....
What would you guys do in this situation. I know that it hasnt happened to anyone and I sure as hell hope it doesnt happen to anyone, but Im undecided between buying a new blower or rebuilding mine.
What are the pros and cons of a New VS. Rebuild blower aside from price.
I do like the fact that I'll get a new warrenty with a new blower, and Im sure that a rebuild wont have as long of a warrenty.
My MM is not a daily driver so the down time is not much of a factor however I want to get her back up and running as soon as possible so I can continue to enjoy the car as I always do.....
What are your opinions and suggestions??????
To rebuild or not to rebuild????????

These Eatons are pretty tough, as you mentioned their are very few, if any that developed this problem.
From a cost and time frame, Point of view, I say rebuild.
Will you attempt this R & R, yourself?
I assume the blower, has to be sent to a professional rebuilder?
An upgraded Twin screw kit, should be available fairly soon.

From reading your post, I assume your blower is a Procharger or Vortec. Vortec, I believe since you mentioned a trim level. I would definitely send it back to the manufacturer. Don't even think of doing it yourself even if you could get the necessary parts. When you return it, I would suggest you upgrade it to a higher trim level. Contact Brian, Fordnut, he is very knowledgeable about Vortec blowers.

An upgraded Twin screw kit, should be available fairly soon.If I go with the new blower Im looking at 2 - 3 weeks minimum to get it shipped, then another week or so to have it installed. As far as the rebuild I will not be doing it myself,Im going to narrow down my options for the labor to be done. From what I understand the bearings have to be pressed on with a drill press and I couldnt tell you what it looked like if it landed in my lap.
I spoke to JB today and they still havnt come out with a price for the upgrade to the Twin Screw and the estimated time.

No Glenn, Rob has a Trilogy. I would send it back to Trilogy Rob and get it rebuilt as long as you have been happy with it.

GlennI have a Trilogy Kit, unfortunatly its out of warrenty, and regardless of what blower I had I would never even try to do it myself. I dont have the patience for it. I have always been able to take things apart but can never put them back the same way and end up with a few extra pieces

No Glenn, Rob has a Trilogy. I would send it back to Trilogy Rob and get it rebuilt as long as you have been happy with it.Trilogy doesnt rebuild them.Im going to have to take it somewhere local or find someone out of state to ship it to to have it rebuilt if I go that route.Either way new or rebuilt it sucks A$$ to see my car and then realize that I cant get in it and drive it.:mad2:

Contact Jerry.
This sounds like an opportunity for Trilogy to demonstrate their focus on customer service by supporting their product even if it is out of warranty or owned by someone besides the original purchaser. Or maybe you're SOL?

Or maybe you're SOL?I spoke to Jerry and he said i would have to purchase a new blower and send him my old one to have them send it out to Eaton to have it checked out. If Eaton would warrenty it he would refund me my $$$ and have Eaton send him another blower to replace the new one I would purchase. To me that sounds like pretty good customer service for something that is out of Warrenty......I hope I wont be SOL

Check with Eaton in CA. As I have said before, I am not an expert. But, Eaton will rebuild your snout for a reasonable price. I would talk to them and decide whether to send your snout only back to Eaton or the entire blower. The snout bearings handle the most load in the blower because they have the closest pressure on them from the blower belt. I am sure Jerry can also be very helpful to you. He has excellent customer service.

Have you checked the tensioner in case it's squealing? With the belt off how does the blower feel when you spin it manually?
So does Eaton suspect the bearings are bad?
Is it still generating boost?
Sorry for all the questions. :)
I have a friend with a Magnussen blower and those basically have an Eaton M112 core, it's on it's second return trip to Magnussen, first time a bad bearing in the reverse pulley system they use (not the Eaton core) and this time it sounds like it's something internal to the unit and it was not generating boost and did have a strange whistle he said. That's on a GM car.
Generally speaking the Eatons are very reliable but everyone knows that's never 100%, best of luck getting the problem resolved!

The bearing went bad on the blower in my S/C still under ESP and the Dealer replaced it.
No problem after that.

Mines pushing 2psi.... did you have the same problem?

I havnt gotten in to the boost since the problem. i dont want to take any chances of damaging it further and having broken pieces got shot down in to the engine.
If you had to send the whole thing for a rebuild (and dont just send to Jerry for possible replace), why not get it ported at the same time.
Although I know Jerry has good service so it may be the best route.
HEre is the guy most recommend... www.stiegemeier.com/index.html (http://www.stiegemeier.com/index.html)
He does repairs and port work. Thats what I would do personally. I hate doing maintenance just to get back where I was before...... Why not upgrade at the same time.

Your dealer covered your vortech under the ESP?

Sorry I meant to write S/C Coupe. It was a factory Eaton on a TBird. was making a lot of noise at 55K.
I was working late to get something out that I just found out was lost in cyperspace, good that I called the recipient.

My Eaton M90 snout bearings went bad, creating a growling noise. I know a few others that have also had this issue. I sent mine to Magnuson (only authorized retail Eaton service center). It cost me 2/3 of a new unit to have it fixed. They also changed the rotor pack and honed the case. It did come with the exact amount of the correct oil too.
Sounds like Jerry is making a very nice offer.

+1 with Todd. My friend just sent his 112 from him Lightning out to Steggy to get rebuilt/ported and it's like night and day with the same blower on it, he's very happy.

I though I read this was resolved? Did it turn out to be, something other than Blower failure? Did the Outstanding customer service/support, from Trilogy Motorsports, strike again? Or am I, wrong?

Brad, you are correct. Local Tuner screw up, vac lines moved, melted; a genuine cluster. Resolved by Carfixer. Rob is a very happy camper you can be sure. A life lesson for us all. Deal with service people that know the system you have. You can believe this episode cost Trilogy Motor Sports a lot of money to fix a problem caused by an unqualified dummy who moved vacumn lines. There was no problem with the Trilogy system at all. Rob is a lucky dude. Dennis

Carfixer found a melted vac tube on the EGR. It's fixed.

That's what I thought. Just so people, get the straight story. Glad to hear it was resolved, with out costing big dollars.

Odd, though. 2nd time that car has melted a vac on the EGR. Got to say though, with all the hands in that cookie jar (including my own) trying to help him out, there's no tellin how lines got routed or why.
