I got stuck in a line of traffic yesterday and sat idling for about 20 minutes in 95* degree air!!!:argue: I noticed the gauge in the dash was right at 19 MPH (180* stat) like always but my ScanGauge was up to 220*!!!

When I finally got rolling and onto the Interstate it took about 10 miles for the ScanGauge temp to return to 207* which is about normal lately for 75 MPH in 95*+ temps..... BTW the highest temp I saw all day was 225*....sounds a bit high but I'm installing the EMP-Steward pump this weekend with a new stat.

When I got to Charlotte I stopped for an hour or so and decided to track the engine temps and compare to the in dash gauge......Well, I started the car and the dash temp was 19 MPH and the ScanGauge was 181*??

Is the damn dash gauge a "dummy" too??:argue: It sits at 19 MPH from 181* to 225* which is a pretty fair spread for no detectable needle movement!!??:mad2::mad2:

I can't wait to see what, if any, impact the new pump will have??

if you dont want to see temps that high in stand still traffic nore get the rear cooling kit from dennis its about the same in price as the new pump my temps were the same in traffic but now with the rear cooling kit the highiest ive seen it was about 200 in traffic

When I have run data logging on my laptop from the XCal2 I compared the dash gauge with the temps on the logging. The dash gauge seemed to work very normally. When the needle is in the middle of the bottom hash mark, the logger always said 150. When the needle was in the middle of the next hash mark (bottom of normal range), the logger always said 165. When the needle was at its normal ("19mph") location, the logger was pretty steady between 194 and 196. These were normal warm (not real hot days) last summer. Every time I went logging the logger showed the temps very steady between about 192 and 198. I never saw a 200. Do we know that the new scan gauge is reading the same values as data logging? It should, of course, but has anyone done a comparison? I'm planning on getting a scan gauge. jon

It is an idiot lite. The guage does not move until ~220*.

The EEC is feeding the ScanGauge so I would expect it to be accurate ......also the numbers you have with the datalog are exactly what I see on the ScanGauge!!

I think the OEM gauge is a "non-linear" temp reader that absorbs temps between 185* and about 230* with no needle movement!!??

Heat needs to be removed with a fan. I have an auxiliary tranny cooler and a 10" fan that makes a serious difference.

When you sit and idle that long do you put the transmission in neutral?
Just doing that can help keep the temp down.

Yep RC......but I think the fan shroud being upside down (PC installation requires it) probably hurts the cooling a bit while standing still??

220* isn't going to hurt anything and I wouldn't even know about it if the ScanGauge wasn't there!!:shake:

The EMP pump will go in this weekend.....Stay tuned!!:D

I'm not sure the fan shroud upside down would make that much difference.
Better to have the fan shroud than no fan shroud.

I installed the new pump and thermostat yesterday and drove to town in 100+ degree air......never got above 207* running and 215* at idle for 10 minutes??

Got back and "burped" the system and will watch it today!!;)

now add rear cooling mod and watch it level off at 180 while moving and stay there....traffic about 195 to 200
