Hello Fellow FL Panther Enthusiasts!
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
I will take my family on vacation in FL on last week of Aug. Can anyone recommend any clean, non-smoking, non-pet, non-moldy, non-roach Motels or Hotels? I’m very sensitive to these irritants and I also can’t stand roaches!
We plan on going anywhere along the Gulf from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on">Clearwater</st1:City> to <st1:City w:st="on">Naples</st1:City> and on the <st1:City w:st="on">Seaside</st1:City> from Daytona to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Ft.</st1:PlaceType> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Pierce</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>. My daughter is eight and does not like amusement parks. So that rules out <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Orlando</st1:place></st1:City>. I’m afraid to go towards <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Miami</st1:place></st1:City> as I hear that it is very pricey there.
All that I ask is that it is CLEAN and reasonably priced from $100-$200 per night. It would be nice to have a pool and good parking. We would like a beach vacation, spending about one or two nights at each location, but I don’t mind driving to get to there so it doesn’t have to actually be on the beachfront. Feel free to PM or email if you prefer.

About a buck-ten a night on the most beautiful beach in North America. Just park the car and forget about it for a week. Lots to do nearby within walking distance. Good food and great bars . Clearwater was voted the number one family beach in the country. 300' of the softest, whitest sand you'll see anywhere on the planet - period!
Spend a couple days reading this hype about our 27 mile long spit of sand -

Shameless promotion :D No, Jake's right on with the beach info..also Honeymoon Island right up the road in Dunedin, or Sand Key just south..plenty of nice places in that vicinity. Just AVOID anything along Gulf to Bay in general.
Sanibel is a very nice spot as well, we stayed just over the causeway last time down there and saved a few bucks..

What Jake said X2. Also you could go to Ft. Desoto Beach which is south of Clearwater. I also recommend just taking a drive out onto one of the two loooooong piers at the Sunshine Skyway. (About 30 miles south of Clearwater I believe,) A bunch of us went there recently. Click the links for pics:

2: LINK (http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1225634&page=1#Post1225634) Scroll down for the pics.
Also the St. Pete Pier is nice too. LINK (http://www.stpete-pier.com/)
And for something different you could go into Tarpon Springs (north of Clearwater) to see the shops and the sponge divers. There is also a great car museum/sales place in Tarpon. They sell a lot of the cars in the museum to anyone with the cash. It cost I think 8 bucks to get in. It is owned by a guy who is close friends with Jay Leno. The cars in the place are great and bring back memories for me. I have been there several times. The local Vic Club I am in is going to be setting up a get together there in the next month or so. I know you said your daughter doesn't do amusement parks, but you could look into Weeki Wachi, which is a 60 year old Florida attraction/tradition which is on the same coast but well north of Clearwater. She might like it.
Have a great time.

I have a no clue of the area, I was about 7 yrs old when I was there last.
My memory is very clear of that visit as my dad was racing his '50s cadilac? against a pickup full of his co-workers. He lost and won; lost the street race, but won a trip overnite jail as he was driving while drunk.
We hung out at some building that reminded me of the Lincoln Memorial. It was very large, white and/or grey marble with columns very well lit up at night. Anyone recognize this?
Reading through countless online reviews, often conflicting was driving me bananas. I prefer real suggestions by people who know the area. Looks like I went to the right place for inquiry. Thanks again for the suggestions, also for the recommended attractions. Great bonus material!

I've read that that is an awesome beach, definately planning on that one!

Looks like you guys had a great time! Would I need to get permits to fish? Regardless, looks like a great place for a picnic.

Could you keep me posted, if possible, I would like to hang out with Panther Fans!

"Weeki Wachi" sounds perfect for her, great suggestion!

In case you didn't find it online here is a link for Weeki Wachi - Weeki Wachi link (http://www.weekiwachee.com/)
Here is a link for the Sunshine Skyway Piers - LINKY (http://www.skywaypiers.com/)
To my knowledge, since you would be on a pier, you will not need a license to fish.

jman--That was what I thought at first, then I found pics of "The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art". Which is in Sarasota. I think that this was the place, as I remember the place having a long patio area and arches.
Is there a "drunk tank" in the old courthouse? This was about 1974. I remember my dad being placed in one that was painted yellow. Then we had to leave, with him there overnight. I guess the LEO were trying to either shame him or teach us kids a lesson by seeing him there. It is possible that I was at both buildings in a very short time span. Thanks, I think that it is cool of you to help me find the place that resides in my memory!

FL will always be highly regarded in my mind as I lived in various locations from when I was 5-10 years old.
