Wish I could get back down your way. Looks like the annual vacation is off:(. The Texas legislature rejected the waiver which allowed our school to have a week long fall break. Kids in shool = no Florida trip. This Sucks!!!

Possible we can get down next year? Hope your are doing well.

Maybe another time. BTW, My engine got detailed a while back. It does not look bad after a dusting the sand off.

This is why the dealer does my oil changes ... 'cause for 25 years i drove a variety of cars that either needed a quart every few days or had the filter located somewhere that meant you got burns or gashes just removing the thing. Jiffy Lube, Quaker State, & the Dealership, 20-25 bucks, a free cup of coffee or soda and I'm out in 30min. Of course, convincing them to use my case of Royal Purple is a pain but ...

How much do you want to bet your dealer doesnt even pay attention to all the oil that has spilled over your chassis when they're changing oil.

Point is kinda moot, there's no way I can do it myself, nor would I want to deal w/ the hassle. Nowhere to store car ramps even if I had them, nowhere to drain oil except into a box of sawdust, and no way to get under car drain the oil in the first place.
As for letting other people do it, I stand there and watch 'em do it. If i wasn't happy w/ the end result, they wouldn't see me back again. All's clean and neat, and I don't see any oil anywhere, so ... Besides, it all goes in w/ a hose. I haven't actually ever given them any Royal Purple.

I mean underneath. Its pretty much impossible to remove the oil filter on a 03+ Panther without getting oil all over the lower control arm and inside all the pockets etc.

Usually most dealers have the $7/hr tech doing LOF's. What do they care?

Beats me, then again, they care if someone (like you) would notice and bring it to their attention. As for me, I don't know why we're even continuing to worry the moot points, Like I said, since I'm never going to do it. I just must trust the automotive professionals I have around me. You want to introduce me to some buddy-buddy mechanic I can trust with his eyes closed here in Knoxville, you go right ahead. I'll start bringing it to him and knowing my chassis isn't oil-splashed afterwards. ... :)

If they put the new oil in with a hose, it's bulk oil with the possiblability of being recycled oil. Also do they have bulk oil with 5W20 and 5W30? if so make sure the oil change guy puts in the right stuff.

If your a car guy then you change your own oil. The entire rack and pinion and the K-member gets covered in the slick stuff if you don't have one of these! This is a must have if your MM is clean from head to toe! My Merc will thank me the next 3000.

I've added one of these to the mix. Makes things neater and nicer for the mechanic changing my oil :) http://www.fumotovalve.com/

Looks nice but I would be paranoid of something hitting that petcock open and leaving me stranded.

I used one of those years ago, and it wasn't that bad. It depends on where the drain plug is on the pan. On the side its fine, on the bottom not a chance I would use it. The lever is spring loaded to prevent unwanted draining, but you never know. It also took longer to drain, but that was with 10W40.
