Hi All,

I am curious about the brake pad contact area on our rotors.

I have about 60K on my Marauder, and am in need of new brakes. I have noticed (for some time now) that the outer portion of the rotors does not get contact from the pads. This measures approximately 1/4 inch.

Does someone make pads just a little larger to properly use this area, and keep me from showing off a 1/4 inch band of rust on my rotors.?

I imagine they are engineered that way to avoid something critical, but just seems like a lot.

You guys in the Non-snow / Non-salted roads areas of the country just won't understand, but I think I need new rotors, as mine are badly rusted....

I understand :shake: I have new front brakes and the 1/4" rust caked rears.

FWIW... Zinc coated rotors will only rust in contact areas after brake usage.. meaning areas like that which receive no pad contact will not rust due to the zinc coating. THe areas which can rust won't because of brake usage... so you'll never see the rust. If you want that areas used for performance reasons then good luck... but if it's only for vanity then I suggest looking at Zinc coated rotors.
