I want to know what to do to cover the air filter from engine heat from the Procharger set up. I know I won't gain much power if any, I just want to stop the engine heat from coming back in. Could I use a battery box that is meant for a race car and cut to size or something? Does anyone sell such a kit to solve this problem?

WHAT?? the only thing that I would suggest if heat is your issue...Put the filter on a longer tube and run it down either insider the Fender of all the way down into the front bumper facia

I like to drive through puddles so I can't do that. :D

I would recommend putting the Air Filter in the battery box you have. Just make sure it is sealed airtight. You shouldn't have any issues with puddles.... no matter how you drive.

Didn't the FIT kit come with an air filter enclosure?

No just the filter and tube. I have nothing protecting the air filter. Not even half a box like the K&N Air Filter.

You've the right idea, you shouldn't be drawing hot air from under the hood.

Contact Dennis Reinhart, he has an airbox that should fit your car. I don't have one and really do not see the need for one and I am in Florida.

Wouldn't that be just for his kits? I looked at the site and he doesn't sell it seperate, even if he did who knows if it would work on a Procharger?

I made one a while back and gave it to BJ because I was working on another design. I just never got around to finishing it because I determined I needed a filter an inch or so shorter to get it fully enclosed and make it more user friendly to pull the filter out of. I found that the airbox was worth about 5 degrees lower intake air temp cruising around and kept the ambient hot air from being sucked in directly while idling for a short time, i.e. at a light. It drew air from the stock location behind the headlight using the stock rubber intake tube. I guess I need to dig up a different filter and get back on this project. See attached pic.

Did you paint your heads yellow? That looks cool. Maybe I'm looking at the pic wrong, but shouldn't you have a hold or something by the headlight? Also maybe you didn't have proper seal when the hood was closed. On the K&N Air Charger it has rubber to touch the hood like a gasket. Did you have anything like that or was it just steal touching the hood?

It had a screw cover (laying off to the side in the first pic) so it didn't have to touch the hood liner. The airbox was open to the air compressor box so I punched a couple of 1" holes in the air compressor box to make sure I was getting plenty of air but it probably wasn't necessary. Here's another pic at a different angle.

They are very similar. It has to do with the size of the air filter. This is a picture I have on my laptop and you can't see the air filter very well. But I am sure your set up is the same.

I'd do it.
I did it.
