hold out a little longer, the 2008 Taurus is going to have a 3.5L with 263 HP, and I still can't believe the trunk has more capacity that a panther.

Grand Marquis is available. I have the LSE with 17" wheels, forced air induction (from Dennis Reinhart) and SCT 2 (also from Dennis). I would not like driving anything else (besides my MM). as I have fun in all seasons. At least, the MGM is not one of these boring front wheel drive cars that you mention as an potential alternative.
Next one to replace the MGM could be a Town Car, if I can find the right tuning and tuner for it ! As it is moved by the same engine + gearbox as on the MGM LSE, I think my choice is nearly done.

and is MUCH more roomy in the back seats than panthers as well.
Too bad the front wheel drive is a deal killer. I would rather buy something used than buy a FWD.

Nobody remembers when detroit made large cars. I had a Newport I think 1970 you could put a picnic table and two benches on the trunk lid and seat six for dinner..

No, that's just a website someone started hoping someone at Ford would see it. But, why would they want to build something we want? The Taurus has been out for a while now, and is available in AWD too.

I had a '76 Lincoln Town Car, it would seat four adults in the back seat comfortably, and the trunk---my god it would hold alot.
Boy do I miss that 460 w/4bbl
