Saturday night, after I got out of work at 11:30, I met with a good friend of mine who owns a '96 SS (stock besides exhaust). We took a cruise from Belmar (shore town) to Route 37 in Toms River (a looong stretch of beautiful 3 lane blacktop with tons of lights spaced about 1/2 mile apart from eachother). 37 is well known for it's street races and always draws a crowd of muscle cars, imports, motorcycles, and other heavily modded vehicles.

We hit 37 and parked perpendicular to the roadway about 75 yards from a light. The sights we saw were amazing. Two different Mustangs left the light with their front tires in the air, begging for pavement. GN's and LT1 F-Bodies were plentiful and gave some good shows as well.

The highlight was when we pulled out of the parking lot to head home. As we near the light, two more '95-96 SS's and an LT1 Caprice 9C1 pull up with us. One hugged the third lane, the 9C1 propped himself in the shoulder, and the last SS hung back to fight off the ricers I suppose. I'm not big on racing on public roadways... I've stated my opinions on that before. But it was perfectly clear highway ahead of us and visibility was clear for miles. Plus, when would I get another chance to run against 3 LT1 B-bodies who all WANTED to lay wheels????

Well, I prep with a drop into 1st, a quick flip of the O/D button, and a slap of the T/C switch. Revs came up a tad until I felt one of the tires almost loosing it's hold on the tar. Before I knew it, the light tripped and we were all into the throttle. I got a REALLY good jump on the two SS's but the 9C1 was MOVIN! I think I faired quite well by staying basically even with the SS's. We kept this up until about 80mph when our conscience got the better of us. The 9C1 put all of us to shame, though.

At the next light, it was a roll of the window and a "nice car" that was exchanged by all of us. We then all pulled off into a parking lot to have a small chat. Suprisingly, they were all enthusiastic to look under my hood and check out the MM. Some even expressed their thoughts of buying one. I was pleased to run into some really good people down there that didn't have the typical "ford vs. chevy" attitude. The 9C1 was a BEAST too. It had an LT4 cam and heads, all sorts of little goodies, crazy custom exhaust, and a shift kit. I cant wait to go back down there!
