I'm considering a run of "progard" style skid plates in .063 Polished Diamond plate aluminum. I'm gonna make one for myself regardless.

I can do 'em for $175 shipped in the 48.

PM me if you wanna do a combo of Radiator cover (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37509), Lower air dam (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37510) and/or rear skid plate.

I'll be making the prototype this weekend, then, it's off to the metal shop for production based on demand. I'll post pics Monday.

Al, it's NICER than the air dam you got. I found even better, shinier metal and a shop foreman that actually listens and reads drawings!!!!

Wow, those look GREAT especially the Radiator cover. Sorry for not seeing the link-colored text. How hard are these to install? I like that cover a lot, and even shinier metal source ... :) nice !

You are lookin at the shinier metal. Al got one of the first run a ways back.

Rad cover:
3 push pins out
Remove latch (2 8mm)
3 push pins in
re-install latch with LONG extension through grille.

Interested in seeing the proguard as well. That may be a lot of weight on the 2 small bumper cover screws. Have you come up with a different way of mounting it?

How much do you estimate the weight?

How much do you estimate the weight?

It shouldn't be heavy. My airdams SHIP at 3 lbs with all the boxing and stuff. There's probly twice the material, so I'd guess 4 lbs, if that? .063 aluminum is VERY light, but very rigid if left untempered. I'll weigh it when I'm done and compare it to the proguard weight. You got me curious now, too.

I weighed them today. 3.5 for the original progaurd, 5 for the new blingtastic progaurd.

However, weight doesn't matter. There are two supports behind the bumper.

My hidden hitch only allows a modified version of the plastic one.

Looks great Rich! Beats the plastic one. Any signs of rattling on the tips? I have the monster 4" tips, we may have to make some adjustments for a good fit.

Actually, it should fit perfect for you. The 4' wide material I use is actually 1.25" narrower on each side than the original progard.

I have been listening carefully for BSRs (Buzzes Squeaks and Rattles) and have visually inspected and all looks good.

Also, the inherent stiffness of the Al is far more solid than the ABS. Where the ABS is more of a cover, the Al actually feels structural. It's hard to describe till you bang on the ABS one, then bang on the Al after install.

As you can see in the pics, the Al piece has more coverage. The ABS couldn't be that way because it would crack if forced to take the compound curve when tightening the bolts. The Al, of course, takes the curve and becomes stronger for it.

The same modification could be easily cut into the DP.

I answered your PM. I'd have to check for material availability and if I'd have to polish it.

They come to about 150 a pop plus shipping in mill finish. Brand new material, so polishing should be easy. .063, so it's fairly thick and strong. Be a little more if I have to polish it for ya, but I will, if you want.

I just stumbled across this thread. I was planning on buying a pro guard in the VERY near future but now that i see that diamond plate YOU have my attention. Do you have any on hand right now? Since your install have you had any type of noise or rattles? My exhaust is so loud i most likely wouldnt hear it anyways.

Nope, No BSR's at all. Not even with my 15 and 1000W!

I have never kept any of the stuff I make 'on hand'. Demand is kinda slow. It only takes me about a week (really a week-end) to get material and make stuff.

Just a heads up, I want one of these, but it will be a few weeks before I get the cash.... so if you go for materials before that you might want to get some more. Either way be expecting a PM from me in not too long. :burnout:
