The backlight of my voltmeter is burned out. How in the world you fix that?

Remove the gauge pod by pulling down and forward on the side "wings". The bulb replacement is obvious at that point. Prolly should do them both.

Do a "search" for instructions (detailed) on how to remove gauge pod from dash...
light bulbs... no. 161 are available at local car parts places...:D

You should be able to replace them with LEDs from Autometer

You should be able to replace them with LEDs from Autometer
Autometer says they do not make or carry that size (158 or 161) any more...!
and they are not LED's... they are small lamps that get really hot....
Autometer sent me the 168 size and right on the package it said "not for use in 2" gauges or tachs...
Just go to Parts store....;)

odd, a LED replacement for 158 - 161 is mentioned by autometer.
check other sources like Summit or Jegs, i'm sure I've also seen tehm listed in their catalogs with the gauges.

I had one replaced by dealer while they were working on a list of other things for me. Now I got slightly diff colored gauges at night. Bugs me sometimes. :shake:I recommend you do both of them if you are going to the trouble.

Okay, I think I'm doing this wrong. I get the tabs in the back of the pod to somewhat disconnect, and it'll only come forward enough to get stuck against the console. An extra pointer or two would be helpful.

You have to take the shifter out of park for the pod to clear completely, but otherwise you just have mess with it...it WILL come out. I've had both of mine out many times.

I think I'll try and mess with it some more tonight, providing I don't get rained on while I'm putzing (I like to have doors and windows open almost all the time as long as it's not raining and over 40 degrees fahrenheit).

Maybe they didn't transfer the blue bulb cover over to the new bulb?

Okay, it would seem that I'm either an idiot or missing some vital piece of the puzzle. It feels as though there's something holding the pod in the middle, but I can't see it. Getting it past the shifter hasn't even become an issue yet. Since I seem to be a few fries short of a happy meal here, could someone post a detailed step-by-step set of instructions? I'm sure once I see it it'll be quite obvious what I'm doing wrong. Well, at least I hope it'll be obvious.

ledzilla, unfortunately there aren't any official step-by-step instructions. You grasp the side "wings" at the back and pull down until the alligator clips release, then you rotate the wings down and forward. You just have to mess with the top of the pod to get it to clear the dashboard . I've done it many times, and sometimes it pops right out, other times it takes me 5 minutes of jiggling and swearing. Same with reinstalling it, you just shove until it suddenly drops into place.

well, it took me more than a year, but I finally got the gauge pod off. I even found #158 bulbs at the local Advance Auto.

Should have gone with an LED bulb. Less power used & almost no heat.

Plenty on eBay. Search for "168 white led". I just got 2,323 results, or go to www.superbriteleds.com

I did not see any with the base that plugs into the socket, just one with ray leads.

when my bulbs went out, i took them out, went to autozone, and said "give me one of these". they did and everything has been perfect every since. I cant remember what kinda bulb it was but it was their job to know and they did.

That was it. I had national bulb day a while back, the gauge lights had gone on on the black as well as one on the blue. Found that one of the bulb covers was MIA.
