today while i was painting my calipers(finally) all was good until i got to the rear wheels..removed wheels, removed LH caliper and pads ,went to the RH side and the caliper had NO BOLTS holding it on:eek:,they were gone w/ no sight of them..caliper was just sitting there...i bought the car from a ford dealer 1 yr ago, since then ive drove 8k miles, numerous romps over 130 mph, trips out of town loaded w/ 4 people,18+ 1/8 mile runs at the local drag strip,in no means am i easy on the car:D...there has never been any noise from the rear (braking or not) but this scary to find , could have tore something up:(..i could tell the dealer did a rear brake job at some point(thick pad and still had part label on it)..i called the local parts store and they said they didnt show to have the bolts for a 03MM...asked him if he had them for a 03 Grand Marquis and he said "sure i have 12 in stock for the GM but nothing for a MM":shake:..drove down and got em and secured my caliper:banana:...went with black calipers and aluminum colored brackets...they look great

How was the caliper held in place with no bolts? Was it captive in the bracket? That is really frieking scary!!! Reason # 137 to not use a dealer again, check!

the pads "clip" into the caliper and have a spring that holds the front pad down to the bracket to keep it from moving during braking but is by no means supposed to hold the caliper and pads to the vehicle and that was all that holdin it there:eek:,some tech must have forgot the bolts and yes i would also recommend that if you want something done right you do it yourself;)

I agree it was a bad situation, but not all dealers are like that.
I wouldn't use "that" dealer again, and let them know why.
