The date is set for Sunday, October 14th. This is a major event because.....

It is a celebration of the past year deployments (all back end of Sept)

Celebration of the transfer from the Navy to the Air Force of the Willow Grove Reserve Station (will take place in the next few months)

Family Day
Governor Rendell and several Congressmen, Senators and local elected officials will attend morning celebration of the transfer.

Philadelphia TV coverage from all major stations!

Event will be held at the hangars and on the flight line due to the expected attendees (1500).

Our Commander has requested that all supporters of the 111th FW be invited and recognized. We have fought to stay at the base for two years and now it will shortly convert to a PA National Guard and Reserve base. Everyone who has supported our Wing members and families were part of this effort, if they knew it or not. I hope your group can attend our event. Your group was a requested item from our Wing members!!

We can take up to 70 cars and will feed at all their guests!!

This looks really good, and not much of a ride (3+ hrs, but I travel to PA quite a bit and was just in Philly on Tuesday...the ride really goes fast when you are a road hound like I am).

Just a thought, and also depends on when you get there I suppose. I plan on being at the gate/entrance/whatever prior to the 8:00 AM start. Not sure if 8:00 is on time or cars need to be there prior to 8...any other place to get more info Ray?

Driving down from CT the morning of the 14th so far (considering putting in a night in a hotel either Saturday the 13th or Sunday the 14th...may be able to tie this into work and expense the mileage!).

Toss in an idea or two if you'd like...seems like it's FreddieH, Bigdogjim, ts-pa, and myself...

Makes sense to me, just checked it on a google map and your talking pretty much just up the street (and I'm pretty sure I needed Easton off of 276 anyhow...)

So far, so good....I'm thinking 7:30 A on the morning of the 14th...unless I dig up more details that require cars to show up much earlier (for setup or what have you...never really did a "show" before)....

I'm going to book into a Marriott something or another
nearby for Saturday. Just think it makes sense, only 3.5 hrs
down, but butt crack 'o dawn VS. wake up/coffee/shave and
5 - 10 minute commute...booking a room FTW.

Hey all,

Was in the Spring House, PA area for work today. Before trudging back to CT this afternoon, I spent some time in Willow Grove looking for the hotel I'm going to stay at and some other "recon".


You know what? There is NO STARBUCKS at 389 Easton Road (611).

I looked ALL OVER the immediate area and just can't see where it is (or was)!


There is an Old Country Buffet, a Bank of America (saw that it was 381 Easton), a TGI Fridays (on the footprint where I think the Starbucks WAS?), a Lowes, a Target, a Genuardi's (looks like a grocery store), a Cingular store...but no Starbucks.

There is, however, a new Starbucks a little farther north on Easton, but it (and the plaza it's in...called Valley Square) are not done being built.

Plaza is just north of the Street Road intersection (not a typo....seriously, Easton intersects with a "Street Road"...somebody down there has a sense of humor :D).


Options are:


1) There is a new Dunkin Donuts at 334 Easton (Rte 611), pretty much
across the street from the Country Buffet (and where Starbucks was).
It's next to some bizzare, rainbow colored house/building that said
"Go Go" something-or-another and I'm pretty sure is supposed to be some
sort of topless bar, restaurant, store....ugh, I have no idea what that
thing was.


2) There is a Burger King before the DD, closer to Willow Grove NAS, just past the
Easton/County Line Road intersection on the left.


3) There is the Lancers Diner at what I'll say is the "top of the hill" on
Easton before the Easton/County Line Road intersection (and before what I think
is the Navy entrance we're not supposed to use). Can't miss it, the restaurant overlooks
the end of one of the runways and is on the right hand side if you
are travelling north on 611.


4) If we're REALLY hankering for Starbucks (no matter to me, I'm a coffee
whore and will drink pretty much any brand)...there is a new(er) looking
location at 2700 Easton....right near the Home Depot you see if/when you exit
276 at exit 343 for Easton/Rt 611.

Lemme know any thoughts, I'm sure we'll figure something simple out.

Works for me to, the area is less congested than down by 276 and you can pretty much see the entrance to WG from the parking lot. Easy to spot too..

I'm about 2 miles from the base here tonite (actually, I'm on the West side of the base...there's a big plane staring at me when I'm at the end of the road that goes to the hotel)....

Things are nice 'n calm (getting COLD at night, though!)...and managed not to get too filthy on the commute down (only had one friggin rock bounce off the windshield back on the Merritt in CT. Caught a "meeting" in Abington so I'm right with myself and the world at large.

What IS IT with rocks 'n stuff wasting my windshield. It's a pretty clean car but I swear I get more FOD thrown at my windshield in the Marauder than any car I drive (and on the same routes).

Didn't see any other early arrivals in the area hotels/restaurants...so must be I'm the only one who'd drive 3.5 hrs to do this...but I wouldn't be anywhere else. Looking forward to tomorrow.
