I was getting my oil changed the other day and while talking the lube techs, (that service facility changes the oil for the majority of the police cars in the city.. might be the dunkin doughnuts/baskin Robbins next door) . But they mentioned that the new Crown Vic Interceptor can do 165, but the cities have to crush them when they are done with them, and they cannot be resold... is this true? I know that Florida purchased 12 camaro's a year or two ago to keep up with newer faster cars... but that would of been unnecessary with a crown vic that can do 165... any input??

Ah YEA..........Right.
Of course the motorolla runs at the speed of light....
So when you say they have to crush them when there done does that meen after one trip to 165?

Where Ford Hiding this engine?I want one.
I would GUESS an unrestricted 4.6l DOHC would maybe do 140 but how long would it take to get there? Then Stop?

The CHP got Mustangs years ago not because of how fast they went, but because of how quick they got to speed. This shortened the chase if you will.

The PI is limited to 129 mph...109 for the non-PI. I saw one guy get his up to 145 with mods but 145 is very close to its drag limit.

Lies, lies - all lies!

129 sounds about right with an overhead lightbar drag will prob keep you arounf 120....Sgt slick top always did 5-7MPH better than reg ole radio car and that was the 1992 model with bigger motor and similar aero-dynamics.

Why would any city or state police department need a car to go 165? Will they be racing them on the weekends?
 :flamer: :D

None of our Crown Vic PI's will do much over 115-120, both with overheads and unmarked. I believe they are mostly 2003's.

My input is........no way. Those oil change boys are smokin something funny behind the shop if they believe that. A boat like the PI won't hit 165 ......sorry.

I think what the Gear heads were trying to say was the New Crown Vic does 165 mph WITH a SuperCharged Marauder pushing it from behind.... :D

OR...with the lack of sales success of the Marauder...Ford/LM was going to go BACK to marketing Crown Vics & GMs to 165 year olds...

I don't think our boats would hit 165 even if thrown out of an airplane at 35,000 feet!!!. :D

I BELIEVE THAT MY MM WOULD RUN A REAL 150 MPH WITH EXHAUST , AIR BOX , NOSE DOWN 4" , BUT 165 IS NOT GOING TO BE POSSIBLE WITH OUT A BLOWER , ETC.

I have a sneaking suspicion that a Marauder with a blower will do 140+ (darn speedo only goes to 140).

I found an advantage to the Canadian model! My Speedo is goes to 220. Yea, it's Km/h and it's the same as 140MPh, but still, it ends with a BIG "220".

My brother-in-law's boss's cousin's gardener has a Sable that'll do 190...... uphill.

but it's red, and that may explain it all.

Yea Right!

I've had 4 CV's before this Marauder. All were PI's and the best I ever got out of one was 123 MPH.

Believe me if I have my choice and want to do 125 I'd much rather it be in a Marauder.
The handling package is substantially better on the MM.

I'm sure that the taxpayers would love to hear that their tax dollars were going to vehicles that would be crushed at the end of service rather than being resold or auctioned off.

Give me a break !

Those oil change guys must have been chugging on the Quaker State.

165, no. the old 9C1 Caprices weren't that fast.
In the 2003 Police trials Ford did have an experimental PI equipped with a Marauder engine, which apparently went over 145, faster then the top speed of the old 9C1. That car isn't being offered for '04 though.

Unless they are junk, I don't think any Police agency crushes their old cars

I was gunned by a friend of mine(a state trooper) doing dang close to 145. That was pretty near the end of the pedal for the big Merc, so I have to say there is no way a CV can make even THAT. I even made 4 passes(2 from, 2 at) past his car and that was pretty much all I was comfortable squeezing out without having a 2 mile run-up and a 2 mile brake-down zone. Since this was on a public road(albeit VERY early AM) I was not about to assume conditions were clear w/o blocking road off (not in the cards).

I know some willbe skeptical that you can get that out of a non-blown MM, but I have to believe his Speed-trak is accurate as it is a brand-new unit with ALL the best in it.

FWIW

Well......If you have the nerve(or lack of sense that I sometimes come to be afflicted by), and can get your butts up early AM and get to L.I. I think I could convince him to record a run or 2 w/o too much ado. Like I said, I would hope his unit was accurate, I cannot swear by radar as I think they are generally poorly executed, but well engineered systems. Except for avionics, which are at or near mil-spec and are DEAD accurate. I bet even RF will agree with me that avionics radar are probably near to perfect as you can buy w/o being in the military. I am looking into another verifiable method that is undisputible yet will produce a printout or screenshot to put any doubts to rest. I guess if I could put a few under the table to a track-hand to let me run her on a track through the time-traps, that would be the ultimate. But I don't have any "low friends in high places" in that arena.
And I don't feel ANY non differential-GPS unit is nearly accurate enough, even though Bill Clinton did get SA shut off.

Onwards and upwards........

Sam,

You need to head out towards Big Spring. When I lived in San Antonio, had to go out there several times in my company Crown Vics...you can fly for DAYS out there and only make sure you watch for the buzzards....

Your right Todd. There are some good long stretches of roadway in Texas to try that on. I need a driveshaft from Dennis first :D

You Texas boys try the long straight stretches between Houston and Beaumont. I drive that way pretty often. Nothing but rice fields and, oh yeah, cops. Maybe that's not such a good idea after all.:banned:
