Quick question about the Xcal2
My brother bought one for his 98 Explorer about a year or 2 ago, and if he sells the truck then he said i can have it.
Heres the question
I heard before the Xcal2 will lock onto the vin number and not let you use another vehicle until the first is returned to stock, then it unlocks. Would this apply from going to XLT 5.0L to MM? Would i be able to upload a lidio tune into my car problem free?
Also how much does a lidio tune cost w/o the xcal2, and would i have to send it in to get uploaded?

You have to return the first vehicle to stock. Then you can use the XCal2 on your MM. Contact Lido or whomever about the tune. They will probably want you to send it to them.

Crap, can you get SCT or can lidio unlock the lock? the only problem is if we return it back to stock, with the headers, intake and cat back it runs like absolute crap.

yes, you can get it reset so that you can use it on your MM. Call SCTand tell them you want to reset your Xcal2. Get an RMA number, and send it back to them. It will cost you $100 to get it reset, and then you can get files from your tuner and use it on that Xcal2. Check with whoever will be doing your tunes, it may be cheaper to just buy an Xcal from them rather than spend the $100 getting the used one reset.
You can do everything from home with Liveload3.

your brother's truck? If that's the case it's going to need that tune when he sells it anyway.
If he's not wanting to give the tuner over to the new buyer I suppose he should just leave the custom tune in and tell the buyer the truck is custom tuned and should not be returned to stock.
Then you can have your tune loaded on the XCal2 after it is unlocked by SCT or a tuner. It could be a problem down the road for the truck's new owner though not having the XCal2 if he has trouble, maybe not.

Live load will not unlock a used sct that was used to tune another vehicle unless the vehicle it was used on was returned to stock. It will work on one that was returned to stock as long as it hasnt been used on 5 different vehicles.
The current fee to have one unlocked and reset to stock sct tunes or blank is 150 bucks. Then you must send it to your preferred tuner for new tunes and that will cost you as well.

Wow holy crap
Im gonna have to tell him that then. The only reason he really got the tune is so the truck would run good with the headers, stock tune and headers it was like driving a loud civic :(
Im going to save for a DTR painted JLT intake first, then i will see what i can do with this whole xcal2 deal.
Thanks for the info! :D
If you return the car to stock, you can unlock it at home with Liveload3

IMO, you will get more Bang for the Buck getting the Tune FIRST, then an Intake.

What? lol what did I do now? No, I'm saying people have gotten better results with getting the tune after getting the JLT, hence getting the Xcal programmed for it. But yes, I would enjoy a beer.
