Dont ask why, i just did. I have what appears to be latex paint on my tires. I was able to remove the paint from the body but not the tires. I was thinking mineral spirts would do the trick but not sure if it would degrade the tires, help is needed.

Mineral spirits (turpentine, or anything used with oil-based paint) will probably not do a whole lot with a latex (water-based) paint. There is a product called Goof-Off which is used to remove latex paint from wood trim, flooring, etc. Have you tried plain old soap and water?

Not sure what mineral spirits (or a similar solvent) will do to your tires (mineral spirits is an organic solvent, tires are made of an organic compound...sort of....I think you get my drift).... It is a good idea to test first.

Again, I would try soap and water, and a lot of elbow grease...

Mineral spirits probably took any wax you had on the car off along with the latex paint. You are right, if the paint was soft, it should peel right off, especially on a metal surface. The tire surface may be porous, which means it may be more difficult to remove.

There is a product called Goo Gone. It is an oily type liquid which is good for removing grease, some paints, and things like the sticky residue when you take a price tag off of something. It may work, but I can't say whether it will affect your tires.

The Goo Gone is good stuff--used it to remove the sticker on the sunvisor--you know--the one about the saftey system, etc..anyway--I used it awhile back -- it's about the only thing that would work--but I was in a hurry and it left some of the after (original) glue from the factory--but if you take your time and let it soak in, the peeling process works better---

Actually, I need to get back on that project --thats another issue however----just thought you would like another use as used on our MM FYI.....

I think the acetone (nail polish remover) might bleach the tires but I'm not sure. Logan knows a lot of stuff- I'd risk it.

Thank you all for your responces. Ok, i went to a local retailer and was looking for stuff including goo gone. I found this stuff called krud kutter. Tried it out in the parking lot and not much came off (yes i waited some after spraying, but maybe not long enough, it was hot out). Went to a friends car wash place and they used a pressure washer to the tires and it came off where i sprayed. Now i only have white tread.

Thank you again,
guy who almost had white walls

I use nail polish remover as my fallback position for damn near anything. Stuff is like nuclear waste. Especially on sticker goo removal. You just have to make sure you have plenty of water handy to rinse the area thoroughly afterwards...
