I have those free flow cats that came with the KOOKS long tube kit.
They have been on the car for nearly 25k.

One has taken to rattling at idle speed.

Is it possible to shake out whatever is rattling within it?

are you sure its not just the heat shield rattling?

if something inside them is rattling, they more likely need to be replaced

+1 with Grifter on the shield. Happened to my Dad's Magnaflow cats (only 1) on his truck.

With Barry's luck lately, you'll have no worry, it'll bounce off road and take out Barry's gas tank and get lodged. :D

, sounds like its time for a new CAT

Mine turned to a rattle can, then it clogged

when clogged , I should have stopped, but went on slowly
it hardly wanted to go....anyway

it was my drivers side that went bad.

CRUZ,

You may have converter knomes... You should try the 'ole heavy footed right pedal - left pedal shuffle... It works best in 25 mph intervals and should only be done in heavy traffic (it helps scare the littles bastards out)... If that doesn't work, I hear that prolonged driving at 6500+ rpms will get them out as well. Good luck... - C

Rattling Cat = Dead Cat.

Yes, take two seconds to check the shield, if it's firmly in place, Replace that ****y.

Get the exhaust system checked as soon as possible. If CAT needs replacing, do it ASAP. The restriction of a CAT would make the car lose lots of power and cause convertors to glow a intensly HOT red. Trust me, you it done and over with, and get back to Maraudering.

It's definately internal. :(

Rather than beat BOTH cats empty, I have chosen to replace the bad one.

KOOKS has them in stock, $183, ouch.

Fortunately it is an easy replacement, and likely the smartest way to go here.

Ordering one first thing Tuesday morning.

They sent a CAT for a Caddilac CTS-V.

My car is currently at the body shop, so is my book of receipts.

ARE THERE ANY KOOKS OWNERS THAT HAVE THEIR RECEIPTS HANDY?

I sure could use that part number tomorrow morning.

My Kook's cats blew out fairly quickly, (shot through Mac's grill, remember?) I'd try a different brand if I were you..

Yes, and it happens all by itself. Mine rattled, mostly at low speed, then stopped. The muffler sound also changed over time. The local muffler shop cut them out & replaced with a comparable set. One of the old ones had already puked 100% of it's guts, leaving me a free flowing system. The other had stuff left. When the shop let it drop to the floor, all it's guts shattered & came out.

$250 for the R&R.
