View Full Version : Will 17" cobra R rims fit a marauder?

I think ive seen the newer style cobra R rims (2002 or such) on a marauder or a vic, but will the older style (Like 95 or so) fit with the proper tires?

I have a VERY good chance of getting these if they'd fit. ALthough the new Yokohoma Geolanders i'd have to take off because they are the wrong profile and they are all the same size. But i think these would be some sweet winter rims :D

wow that was fast :D

Doesnt Pirelli have some snow tire? Or i could look at different Yokohoma geolanders, make em 2 different sizes with a smaller profile.

No, no, NO!

Winter tires??? Are you crazy? With the money you will spend on the rims and tires, and a little more, you could by a WINTER BEATER and save the Marauder. For the love of God, SAVE THE MARAUDER!!!!!

Not so fast. I don't buy it. Anyone that can buy a MM for 10-15K and start thinking about pouring hundreds into it in the form of mods (and put snows and rims on it) can afford $700 for a winter beater. You take your car off the road Nov 1st, transfer the policy, and you pay no more for insurance. In the spring, your shiny new DTR will be like :banana2: 'thank you so much for saving me a slow, cancerous death this past winter!';)

No no the folks helped out alitle bit with that price also. i'd be able to get the rims real cheap when my brother sells his truck, and i dont think i'd be allowed to have another car. Plus i dont feel safe in beaters :) Thats why theyre beaters i guess. I just wouldnt want to be driving along and see a wheel of mine go rolling past me

cheap price + good looks + good winter performance = happy me

These arent cheap knockoff's either, they are ford racing rims, so they should last. Havent had any problems in winter so far. Well one of em cracked from sliding into a curb, but that was on street tires ;)

Tire was fine, just needed a new rim which he got...

I dont know i am diggin them for winter tires. Ill see what tires it'd take to make it work

Anybody have an idea what size tire i'd need to make it the same rolling diamater as the stock setup? The rims are 17X9

Nice photo shop!

Bus is a great idea...

But, you're young, and stubborn (I was 16, too. I remember!:D)

Tire diameter formula:

width x (series/100) x 2 + rim diameter = tire height. Make sure you're using the same units. 25.4 mm per inch.

example: (255 x (60/100) x 2) + 17x25.4 = 737.8

divide by 25.4 = 29.05 inches of height.

Now you can calculate any tire height

Friend, sticks are a lot of fun. Learn it. When you have more bling, you'll want one for your MM come spring:cool:

the question no one has asked (atleast if they did, I missed it) but are those +24 offset on a 9" rim? thats going to stick out quite a ways.

You MAY have to go to a 60 aspect ratio, or higher possibly to not through off your ABS/TC. I have 4 in like new condition '06 CVPI rims that I'd sell you.

Jim,

My GM with an open rear is AMAZING in the snow. During ice, and horrid snow storms, i was one of the only ones out on the road.

I thank my Goodyear Integritys for their service and rediculous traction during deep slushy snow, and ice.

Get some (03+) CVPI steel wheels. I took the tire combo from Joe "DragCity". I run 235/70-16 up front and 255/70-16 on the rear and their WinterForce snow tires. They worked great with what snow we had down there. One nice thing is that people will think your are a cop even more lol.

I'm going with a set of 16" alloy rims and Winterforce M&S Studded tires.

and a rear 16" non studded for a spare.

215/65R16 front
and
225/70R16 rear

Will cost about the same as steels and hubcaps.

Luke at Tirerack suggested this set.

Hey this is the car I pointed out to you way back here:

No Guarantees on that.

Shouldn't be a problem though.

Mine has a burnt out amp or sub, but I'm going to replace the whole system so it isn't too bad.

I still havn't used the CD changer yet. I really need to get organized.

Well the carfax looked good but its like the first year they put the most miles on it, then after that it was like 6000 miles a year or so.

I think they were alil burnout happy as oasis report says "replaced rear tires" and the rears are less thread than the fronts.

Also i checked the oasis again and last oil change at a ford dealer was 19k miles, could this car last 10k + miles doing burnouts time to time running on crap oil? We checked it and it looked clean, not brand new but like changed not long ago clean. So i dont think the dodge dealer just changed it.

Im not to worried, just curious really. I dont want this to turn into a money pit like my brothers 15mpg highway explorer has become

Will try, only thing about that now is there are already 4 explorer rims and tires standing up in our back yard, so 4 cvpi rims and tires next to it would pis my mom off alot :D

If the 16" explorer rims would take some snow tires then i'd use those because they look cooler than steel black rims, and there free if it dont go with the truck.

Ill see what happens when i pick the car up tommrow... Oh wait, tommrow is today! Hehe todays the day :)

You kiddin me? For the winter, black steels with chrome center caps is funner to have than any other generic wheels on the MM. I just picked up the set of wheels/tires off of tripletransam, and am expecting them to be delivered soon. Same set up as yours diabloical, 215/65 front and 225/70 rear, that way keeps the ratio the same not screwing up the tc, and doesnt have that enormous beefy look to it like other thicker tires do.

I dunno, the cobra r's are wider and would probably provide more traction with the right tires. Thats where i'd need help on, i dont want to screw up the rear end.

Four Explorer rims are nothing lol.

From left to right.
Spare dount, Four BFG kdw2 255/55-18, snow tires, Two 215/60-16 in the back and Four Mustang GT 245/45-17 wheels with tires. All just sitting in the corner of my shop, my boss hasn't really said anything about them luckily lol.

Yeah I used to be Master Certified sales team leader at a local Ford dealership. Now I run a shop by myself installing and servicing ignition interlock breathalyzers for a company called Draeger Safety Diagnostics, Inc. for people who get a DUI/DWI, they have to blow into the device and pass a test before they can start their vehicle, if they fail a test because it detected alcohol then they can't start the vehicle for a certain amount of time. Just remember don't drink and drive, one can of beer can put you over the limit.

I'm assuming that since they are real cobra R's they were meant for sn95 stangs. That makes them 17x9 with +24 offest. That will make them stick out 1.5" farther than stock wheels do. Spacers for those would be even worse.

Marauder
08-23-2007, 07:20 AM
They'll fit but they'll also stick out. Those Cobra R rims have a 24mm offset and are 17x9. The regular Cobra rims I believe are 17x8 but look a slightly different. You'll need like 40-50mm offset. Unless they make ones for 2005+ Mustangs with the proper offset, they're gonna stick out of the car and look a bit weird.
