ok, two things,
#1,
i was traveling from florida to arizona. some where not too far i experienced this weird thing. my voltage gage drop tpo 12 from 13.5 and the car kind of died. so i put it in neutral, the voltage came up and back to normal. this happen all the way to texas - on and off. what the hell was that, was it bad gas or the fact that the car was telling me not to stop at my ex-wifes :argue: place.

#2 how do i tighten my rear view mirror, it moves enough to drive me crazy. is there a alan wrench to use.

Welcome aboard.:D:welcome1:

#1 . Sounds to me like the engine was stalling.
Is the check engine light on?

#2. Don't know for sure but most rearview mirrors are attached with an allen key.

#2. Don't know for sure but most rearview mirrors are attached with an allen key.

No allen key, all current OEM mirrors have a metal spring clip inside the mount that provides tension to the metal button glued onto the windshield. No tool required at the assembly plant to make it faster to assemble.

Because of the plastic construction and the weight of the auto-dimming feature, these mirrors shake, alot when hot, less when cool. Take a look after your car sits in the sun and it's 120 inside, it shakes much more than when the AC runs and the temp is only 75 inside.

If it is actually loose on the metal button it may not be completely snapped on. You can try rotating the base downward and toward the windshield but be forwarned, the adhesive that holds the metal button to the glass windhshield can fail and you'll be without a mirror. The longer (number of years) it sits in the sun the more likely this is to happen.

If it's snapped onto the button but it's still loose you can A. replace the mirror since the metal spring clip is integral to the base or B. wedge something in there.

If it's not loose on metal button but is loose elsewhere your option is A. replace the mirror, or B. Duct tape the mirror to the headliner.

Since the interior rearview mirrors now sport such options as auto-dimming, lap lighting, compass/temp displays, Side blind zone indicators, microphones for integrated cell phones, and On-Star electronics (not for Fords) they have become much heaver than 20 years ago. That added weight causes the mirrors to shake more and become less useful for their intended purpose of seeing behind you. The only thing that helps is that modern suspensions smooth out the bumps much better than 20 years ago.

thanks for all the input, ahess77.

The problem with mine is that the mirror "support" is firmly attached to the metal plate that's glued to the windscreen, but the mirror body itself seems loose. I'll mess with it this weekend but it sounds like a new mirror is the only real solution. :depress:

thanks for the welcome, no, the engine didnt come on. it was like a spike in the system and it did stall. but, i put it in neutral and it went back to normal. it did that periodically and than stop.
i couldnt find the alan key for the mirror

sounds to me like the engine was stalling.

Yep I had the same problem with my mirror, Brought it up to the dealer and they said it looked like it was a problem with the mirror its self. They fixed it, good as new.....
