View Full Version : Question about Calibration Codes

So over the production life of the Marauder there appears to have been 6-7 calibration codes. (Calibration codes are the PCM code you can find on your door jamb, for instance CDR0, MAV2, etc.)
It seems that each calibration code represents a change in the software/code in the PCM.
I know some of these changes, such as those in the '04 cars, were necessitated by upgrades such as dual knock sensors.
I know it's probably impossible to know what the differences are from code to code, however, are the calibration codes simply software updates or do they correspond to driveline/body changes as well?
For instance, a tune written to an '03 calibration code would have problems on an '04 since that base code would not include parameters for the 2nd knock sensor. Therefore you need to know the calibration code.
My question is could a different calibration code simply be a code change and be interchangeable with another? Kind of like a MM firmware upgrade. Meaning no "hardware" in the car was upgraded.
Or does this mean for each calibration code a minor change to the MM was put in production?
So I suppose the big, overarching questions is this: For each calibration code does that mean a slightly different MM in terms of "hardware" under the hood? Or can it simply be a software change?
Just curious if there are minor differences in production builds between calibration codes.

The bugs got worked out in 03, so all of 04 had MAV2

04 needed alll the changes from 03, including a 6 hole OSS Sensor and Dual knock sensors

Any code in 03 will work on an 03. The reason for calibration changes was due to cold start issues

Strictly software, and nothing performance related. No MAF functions or spark tables were ever changed.
Just curious if there are minor differences in production builds between calibration codes.
I would say NO

I wish that ANY code would work on my 03. I tried a CRD1 Lidio tune on my MM and it would not take. I have code PDN0 , which replaced CRD0. I'm strongly thinking of getting a BDM0 PCM because it seems to be the most popular of them all and it is used on the pre-decontented 300Bs.

Must be a fluke cause Ive loaded CRD1 into my BMD0 before.
Never even seen a PDN0!

Yea, I have BMD0.

BMD0 here as well.
different catch codes contain different fuel and spark strategies, among other differences like that, along with other ECU controlled functions. IE a 300b ECU with TC will not interchange with a 300a w/o TC.. Your best off sticking with the catch code you have now and geting a tune. Your tuner will optimize your performance, basically negating any gains you might get by finding a compatible, non matching ecu, while still maintaining all the specific functions of your specific ecu.

I meant BMD0. MY bad.

I've got one with a Reinhart flash for 4.10s. Make me an offer.

BMD0.....MAV2....etc. are what I was told to be "EEC Catch Codes" while MY MAV2 "Calibration Code" is RZASABS!!!
Unfortunately I found ALL of this out when installing my ProCharger EEC tune!!:mad2:
A bogus "Stock" tune was in my car from a previous failed effort to tune it with SCT software!!:argue::argue:
The fix would have been a dealer "Re-Flash" but they were afraid a NEW calibration code would be used and Diablo did not have a tune compatible with anything newer than RZASABS calibration.......It was VERY tense but good ole Dave Lamberson fixed it all over about 4 days!!:bows:
BTW.....I STILL have no OEM Ford tune but I guess I won't ever need one again??

Good info...
I suppose part 2 of the question is this, for each "hardware" revision of Marauder then, there may be a "best version" of the software. (Primarily for '03 it would seem)
So if you had an early car, and bought a tune, would it make sense to request a tune built on a newer revision base calibration code that is compatible with your "hardware" revision?
That way you get a tune as well as any minor enhancements made to the base programming.
Or does the retuned programming pretty much negate the need for that in the first place?
Hope that makes sense

Does that reflash require the Densos and 180 stat? Also, I thought you sold this a while back.
