View Full Version : What cars have the same EATC as us?

This 01 GM appears to have the same one. http://i8.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/b3/10/6a47_3.JPG

Is it only specific years of other panther cars that will fit or if I go to a junkyard and find any one that looks like ours it will work?

Don't think so. Hell, my Aunt's '98 CVLX has the EATC that looks the same. I do not think they're specifig though. They will not work though in a pre '98 Panther.

My brother put one in his 98 XLT and it looks the same as mine, he got it from a wrecked mounty and the digital display also.....

Its ford cmon, they pull it out of 1 parts bin and stick it into 10 models.

Thanks, I figured they would work but the town car for example is not the same. It also seems that CVPI cars have the older setup as well.

Towny's with rear A/C won't work. Most of the others will though. PI's and Fleet CV's may differ but usually have manual controls and not EATC. Any routine LX / LS will have the same unit.

Best luck,

J

This is from fordparts.com does anyone know whether or not the eatc w/o the automatic feature (I'm assuming that is what atc stands for) will work on our cars? I don't mind adjusting the temp manually and the price difference is substantial. I'm just looking at the new prices before I call the local pick n' pull.

You didn't say why you're looking for a replacement EATC module, but before you buy another,
you might want to read this post (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?p=514535&highlight=eatc#post514535).

I'm trying that now.

Fixed....for now. The advanced did not have an o-ring so I went to pep boys and had to buy a small packet and used one from that. It was a little larger and was not as snug. It did not fit at first when I put it back together but I lubed it a little and it went in. Started the a/c and nothing. I was pretty annoyed. Tried again and it worked so we will see. Also one of those little metal tabs that holds the armature in broke. :censor:

Glad to hear you got it fixed. Sorry 'bout the tab. I didn't find mine to be that fragile, but then, I
kinda know what to expect with sheetmetal tabs. Think I should add some kinda warning about that?

The O-ring doesn't have to be exact, as you've discovered, as long as you can get things back together
without nicking the O-ring, and it seals, it should be fine.

I had to cut the old O-ring to get it off actually. It looked fine it just was too loose in the tube. All of the other metal tabs were fine it was just that one that broke so I don't know if a warning is necessary or not. I was going to take pics but forgot. If I have to go back in there I will take some.

Glad to hear the orings fixed it.

For future reference you would need one from a 2003+ CV/GM/MM w/ EATC

The 1995-2002 unit is physically the same, but the 03+ EATCs use the mutliplex network for a/c clutch operation, among other quirks.

For the older CV/GMs, they interchange 1995-2002 panther. In 1996 the EATC was revised with the 'new' style face which has not changed since.
In 1998 the illumination color went from 'cool blue' to green.
In 2001 redundant control operation was made available. If you have redundant audio/hvac controls in a 01-02 cv/gm you must use an 01-02 EATC to retain the feature.

98+ Town Cars get their own nifty EATCs, they don't interchange (electronic recirc door, SCP dimming, etc.)

95-97 Town Cars used the same EATC per year as 95-97 CV/GM, however, these units are capable of redundant audio control. (In fact your MM's steering wheel shape and radio/hvac controls was first made available on the 95 Town Car  )

EATCs from other models won't work. They may look identical, and they even use the same connectors, but the pin outs will be different and occasionally the vacuum harness connection is a different shape as well.

A manual rotary control HVAC unit will not swap right over without other modifications.

I did the opposite swap in my Marq, taking the plunge to complete the rather complicated swap of going from manual to EATC:
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/522801/fullsize/sta70337.jpg

To replace with the manual unit, you would need to solder in new pigtails, replace the BMSC with a blower motor resistor (and modify the EVAP housing to mount it), run 4 high current wires from the new control knob to the resistor unit (with new pigtail), and replace the vacuum harness with it's manual counterpart.
The existing EATC sensors and wiring could be left in place unused.

Unlike the manual->EATC swap, you would not have to replace the blend door, though. The internal potentiometer will just be unused.

IMO, that would be a very stupid conversion :p

I know this is an older thread. However, I wanted to confirm does anyone know if a 2002 Grand Marquis EATC would work in our MMs? They look physically the same on the outside with the same buttons / controls.
Are there any different internal components?

I have a EATC unit that has a blue color body I got at the Junkyard.
If I put it in the Marauder, if blows the fuse.
It's probably is the one you need.
I can find the number on it if you are interested.

I am looking to get one as a backup. I found one in a junkyard and the EATC from the 02 GMQ has a part number of 1W7H-19C33-AA. I just don't know if it interchanges with a 03 MM.

Why not have yours repaired and upgraded? :dunno:

Probably costs about the same as a used one from a junk yard that most likely will need to be repaired also.
