It appears that the wiring diagram indicates 16 gauge wire to the cigarette lighter and to the power point located in the console....
I have just acquired a portable tire pump... 12Volt, 23 amp max...
It came with positive and negative battery clamps...
I'd like to change these out to a single plug acceptable to cigarette lighter/power point recepticles...
ANYBODY SEE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS...?:help:
Thanks as always for everyones information and help....:thanks:

I'm thinking the fuse will handle 23 amps for a minute or so.;)
I may be wrong...who knows.
But since it is for emergencies, why not use it as intended?
Straight off the battery terminals.

You might blow a fuse since the lighter is only 15 amp. You might have better luck using the power point inside the center console since it's a 20 amp fuse.

Architect, I would be very careful with this. Free-air current capacity of 16 AWG wire is only 22 amps, and when put in a bundle or harness, like it is in the console of the car, reduces the safe current to 13 amps (YMMV).
I used to use one of those tire inflating pumps and melted the power point in the Blackbird. It was not a fun repair, either.

I would say to use the battery clamps, you will get the most power from there, and no melted harness possible.

I blew the fuse using a tire pump that had a cigarette lighter power cord! Dem's some weak lighter sockets.

Well that's all good information...
This site is like having a master mechanic around 24-7...:D
I think I'll leave the clamps and use the battery direct connection...Duh...just like it was designed for....:)
Thanks again,
