Hi everybody! Well I have question that at some point has already been answered but I couldnt find it. OK here goes: Can our cars have the Shelby GT500 motor fit and install w/o major changes to the hood? This is the route I want to take when I add more power, since it already has forged internals and is ready for more power w/o doing major upgrades to the motor in our cars. Thanks in advance to any and all that help.

If you can fit a lightning motor into a P71 then yes it should be possible.

well, a lightning is a 2v motor, so you dont have the huge bulk of the 4v heads. It should only be an inch or 2 wider, but those might be precious inches between the shock towers.
Anything is possible. There really isnt a reason your stock wiring wont work with some mods, its not too much different than running a Trilogy on a 4.6.

No. It's a 5.4 DOHC. The valve covers will interfere with the heater and cowl covers (windshield wipers) and possibly the brake booster.

Isn't the 5.4 motor also taller, so you'll have hood clearance issues too.

Probably, but that's just cosmetic. The other stuff (AC, wipers, brakes) is really important.

Oh, yeah there are a couple of other things that would have to be changed too since the '05 and newer engines are "drive-by-wire".

If you going to be spending that kind of money it would probably be easier to drop in an 03/04 cobra motor and then throw on a whipple or something.
Bobby;
Did you just win the lottery? No? Then go with a centrifical S/C, 10 lbs of boost and you will make so much power the Electric Co-op in Lufkin will tap into your car so's to power the new subdivision.

Ok could our heads be retroed to the GT500 or what? I dont really know but if it is done it is all going to be done by dealer so I can keep it in warranty.
Thanks again for any advice.

Pat I was just afraid of having to do upgrades to our motor first before adding boost. Thats why I asked everyone there thoughts bc I really dont want to upgrade this motor little by little if I could just save up and do that major step at once.

hey, i know the popular thing to do is to drop in an 03/04 cobra motor. But in my opinion(whatever thats worth) it might be worth your time to check out MMR's line of short blocks. Go to modularmustangracing.com they have 4.6 short blocks that can hold more power than you would ever want to put through it for EXCELLENT prices. They have built 4.6 shortblock, they have 5.0 stroker shortblocks if you wanted to bump the displacement of your 4.6. They do very good work, and their website will tell you just what all goes into them making a short block for you. Their 4.6L Street Mod 900 short block good up to 900hp(i have seen them hold more than that, why advertise the limit at the limit i guess) is $2799. thats not too shabby in my opinion
