I am new to the site and know a little about cars but not much. So here goes...
I have an 03 MM with K&N cold air intake. I want to do a tune and other mods but am not sure where to start. On to my questions...
Whats the difference between underdrive pulleys and factory pulleys?
Is there anything different about the factory and larger MAF sensor?
I am making a list of things that I would like to do but am not sure where to start. Is there any recomended start point?

I went w/ a tune from DR, 4:10 and UD pullies. I went 14.25 on a cool nite.
The UD pullies are smaller and reduce drag allowing the engine to rev quicker.

I believe they are lighter too. Dennis Reinhart and Lidio both offer very good tunes, they both are vendors here on the site.

Hey Hacklemerc,
Welcome back. The first question you have to ask yourself is what you want of the car? Straight line speed, curve hugger etc. The next thing is to drive some of the other cars with the various stages of construction.
Maybe we can meet up this weekend and you can drive mine for starters. I have a DR tune (tweaked) K&N CAI, UDP, PHP intake spacer, rear swaybar and a couple others. You can thus get a baseline of where you want to go.

The ULTIMATE IS SUPERCHARGED everything else is interim.

I am a big fan of straight line speed. THe faster the better. I'm off this weekend as well. PM me and maybe we can get together and talk cars.

FWIW, I was going to do UDPs, until I noticed that almost everytime a MM had a engine failure with the basic bolt ons, that engine had UDP installed. The weak link is the oil pump. My uneducated guess is these are failing due to vibration caused in part by UDP. The gain is not worth it for me to chance tossing out a engine I can't afford to replace. :flamer: away.

I have a brand new 90mm MAF for sale. In your current form, it'll help throttle response a bit. It'll really breathe if you free up the exhaust.
If you are going to get a tune, you'll need to have teh MAF in hand. Tell your tuner you'll be using one. Install the MAF, install the tune, then start the car.
UDP's are cool, but if you plan on SC any time soon, you are wasting your time since ALL the SC makers for us call for stock pulleys.
Trilogy and DR Vortech kits will benefit from a 90mm MAF, so it's a building mod. FIT Procharger kit comes with one, hence my sale.
There's lots to do on these cars. Search and read. Read signatures and visit the garage as well as teh timeslips page. Get ideas that way, then ask. Everyone will have experiences and opinions. Apply those to your own wishes and budget, then proceed!

From what I understand, 1st run UDP's had no damper. Current UDP's from Steeda DO have a damper.

The ones that failed early on were due to errors in installation of the older style 2-piece pulleys. I'm not aware of any failures with the Steeda pulleys.

I had them for 40+K w/o any problems. So have many others. Even more Mustangs have w/o any problems.
There were UDP that required the bolting on of the OEM damper. Unfortunately several did not follow directions and left the OEM damper off resulting in engine failure.
There are many examples of engine failure as a result of preignition traveling thru the crank to the oil pump gears which shatter.
"Vibration" is not the cause, preignition is.

I'm assuming (hoping) you have the latter?
