And why it's messing up my radiator? I just noticed it a few minutes ago.

It's on the drivers side, ahead of the rad. It looks like some kind of sensor that has come loose. It's threaded on the thin end, but there is nowhere in the travel of the ?wire? (I use that term loosely - pun intended) for it to go into. It may go in the bracket ahead of the rad, in a small oval hole there.

Any Ideas?

looks like your outside climate control sensor but not 100% sure and get those bugs out of that radiator :)

my guess on the water temp sensor is NO there would be coolant all over.

That's what I was doing when I found it :)

It does look like a sensor of some sort. I'd guess ext. temp or climate sensor too. It can't be a liquit sensor, ethier that or I'm out of coolant :-) I've just got it zap strapped to the support frame for now.

Thanks guys. I'll take it to the dealer on Monday.

I just replaced one of those on that Cougar I had. It looks just like the water temp sensor. So... less those things can pick up outside temp without water, and you haven't lost any coolant, then it very well may be the outside temp sensor.

it's your outside temp sensor, just stick back in the bracket, you now its the sensor that tells ya how hot or cold it is outside:help:

Or do what Dennis did ,make the wire longer and stick it in your air intake.

That's your dilithium ion super-reflective tri-polyxenon infrared phase displacement unit.

We don't get these in Canadian cars... something about interefering with the DRLs and all....

Looking at the shop manual, I'd have to agree that it looks like it should be the ambient (exterior) temperature sensor. Like many have said, it really shouldn't be dangling like that, so I'm assuming there should be some sort of bracket, as mentioned in another reply. Wish I'd seen this thread earlier yesterday, when I was changing the oil. :(

Hey, between your dangling Ambient Temp Sensor and my dangling green wire in the trunk, it's no surprise I'm able to pull 15.0s in the 1/4... these Canadian-destined cars must be getting lighter with all the crap falling OFF the car!!

While you're at it, make your dealer take note of the radiator surface contact. Ask them for a new radiator or you'll be coming back to see them with your attorneys once it fails prematurely a few years down the line. Pay me now or pay me later, you know...

It is the ambient air temperature sensor. It was rubbing your a/c condensor, not the radiator. As previously stated it sends the outside temperature info to the climate control. I thought Dennis' idea of using it to monitor intake air temp was pretty cool.

ooooo! How rude!

That just fouls my plugs!

Thanks guys! You'd think they coulda found a better way to attach this thing other than spit, chewing gum and electrical tape! The dealer has to order the nut that this thing is attached to, and I'm fighting with them about the rad... we'll see!

Your dealer does NOT need to order a nut. There is none! The sensor retainer is simply molded into the front cross car wiring tray. Just push the sensor up from below into the serrated hole. It will lock into place. To remove the sensor, you have to remove the wiring connector and screw the sensor back out. installation takes about 5 seconds, which is why it was designed as is--but sometimes the guys on the line overlook small things.

Actually, that sensor is scraping against the a/c condensor, not the radiator. So if you a/c goes warm, there you go!!!!
