Why is this necessary? Except for high HP marauders - Marty, nobodys axles are failing.

I hate to tempt fate, but three years on the stock rear axles and I'm doin fine. Is this a feel good mod?

You dont fall into the high HP Marauder category.

I didn't say I did. Read it again. Then again, according to the timeslip page, maybe I am.

So Marauders would have to be running well over 450 + hp could be a candidate for this axles? How many Marauders are there that can do that?

Not to sound like a jerk, but why did Ford go with with 31 spline axles on the low performance 2007 CVPI ? Do they know something we don't.

I still do not see CV, CVPIs, GMs, or MMs breaking axles.

Well my friend when you start dipping into the 1.4 sixty foot time range I bet you will not be asking this question. My personal best is 1.699, but I average 1.72-1.78. I was told using slicks will increase the likelihood of axle failure. Martyo told me to upgade my axles and I did. Can you think of a better reason.

Ok Mark, you are an exception - like Marty, Jerry Barnes, TJA and a few others.

Point is, are these axles really needed. Especially for MMs NOT running slicks pulling 1.699 - 1.78 60'ers?

These fall into the same category as a helmet.

Correct. Just remember what happens when you break an axle without C clip elims.

Negative. A slow Marauder can crash causing the driver to benefit from a helmet.

Not my point.

You don't need the helmet until you have an accirdent.

You don't need upgraded axles until you break them.

Either way, it is too late to get them after you need them

I think the rate of upgrades is evident as to the true need for them. A built rear end is going to last longer (all things being equal) and will be better for running at the track.

That being said, when going high-HP - heck even "higher-HP" than stock, we all find the same thing - move down the chain, and find the weak links.

It seems from what I've seen, many high-HP cars are finding the links in a sort of "front to back" order. Stock engines get weak with high boost, tranny's need rebuilding, driveshafts wobble, and then rear ends.

That being said, a strong Marauder running slicks should be looking for and upgraded rear. Martyo is also right about C-clip eliminators, a good thing to look into when building the rear.

Does a powerful street Marauder need them? Well, "need" is a relative term. It can benefit from it, sure, but I think the "need" is evident in the lack of posts about broken rears. With that much power on the street tires will often break loose before axles.

Early 300A cars are an exception as they have the axle TSB issue, and I'm guessing unchecked it can lead to problems.

The thing is, mod-wise, for a street driven MM, there are generally other areas that require attention before budgets make it to the rear.

On the track though, when the torque flows and those slicks bite, strong axles will be quite beneficial.

I'd be interested to see how many people have broken their rear ends (besides burning out the trak-lok). Certainly not saying a street MM won't break an axle, but based on the data available on these forums it appears other things typically go first "on the street."

That being said, if I snap an axle on the way to work tomorrow I will be quite upset!!

It's like purchasing insurance, you don't need it till you get into a accident. Charlie, spend the extra money and get the upgraded axles. You will feel better at night, but don't tell Lisa you spent another 800 bucks on your car. :flamer:

Don't all CV/GM now come with 31 spline axles?

My local speed shop told me that c-clip eliminators were not good for daily drivers... is this really true? He gave me an estimate to completely redo my rear diff by welding in the ends of a 9" Ford rear housing and something about bearings and such that would not allow the axle to come out if it were to snap... but with the potential for ABS/TC issues and the approx $3k price I have yet to act on it. What gives with the c-clip eliminators?

From what I've read it's not recommended to run a c-clip eliminator setup on the street/daily driver

At 60+K my spider gears were chipped. This was with 20~K S/C miles, 150~ runs of which 50~ were S/C.

I went back w/ the stock on purpose. I want it to be the weak link.

It has been asked who has snapped an OEM axle and at what RWHP level?
