Today, I went to the track for my first ever encounter with the 1320.

After 3 years of tweaking it was about time !

The timing was looking right: a few mods this year, the car in basic shape save a weird idle problem, and a soon to be stored for winter car. Last night, the thermometer went down to about 32° as there were a little frost over the glasses. Cool air and the day temp went about 60° F in the afternoon. A typical warm Canuck day.

My car is modded for all around performance so some mods are good for ETs some less:
- FIT Procharger 005 with 91 octane conservative tune (415 RWHP only),
- Meth injection for octane boost and chimical cooling (no timing added)
- Pirelli Scorpion truck street tires 285-50-18 (wider tread but Peterbilt height at 29.2 " and rain tread for most of it but still able to go 180 something miles per hour. One day I will have to check on this),
- 4.10 gear and Auburn LS,
- Kooks system but with 4 mufflers as I hate cabin drone noise,
- Stallion 3K stall converter,
- Metcos all around in the rear but with Addcos to stiffen things up in the curves
- And a few other change to help reliability and weight distribution like battery in the trunk and aluminum piping) but stock 40 000 miles engine and tranny.

I had a friend who came by to film this event and it was a regional, non professional track. No program, just opened to people willing to pay 10$ to enter and 2$ a run. I was told they put just a little resin early on at the opening and then let the fun goes by itself.

So I went early , bought 2 run tickets. Given the time posted on this site and my total inexperience and street tires, I wasn't expecting much : somewhere in the thirteen would had put me happy. But it went better than I though. Look below in pic my first run, the best one. The second run was made without resin and some tires chunks all over so the time was worst.

Preparation: Took off 14 pounds of air in the rears at a final 26 pounds, topped the meth reservoir and checked the oil. Pretty minimal I guess but the car is supposed to be in shape anyway. Half way tank, that's it. Spare still in the trunk ! I did put MarauderTJA T-shirt he gave me last march as it is light weight cotton and threw my pocket change away.

1- First run: Never saw a tree going down that fast ! Was in deep coma against a Honda ricer with a big menacing spoiler about the size of an hawaian surf board !
Reaction 1.499 (coma!)
but a great 12.555 at 111.48 MPH Yippee, Pretty lucky for a rooky ! :)

2- Second run against a sporty Toyota with a turbo
Reaction .648 (sleep had to be stopped)
but a bad 12.99 at 110.02 (Track prep seems to be pretty important)

I won over both and had the time of my life !! Now I know why you guys are so addicted !!

Thanks for reading. I"m already planning for next years ;)

jdando,

I might had exagerated a bit, say a large patio plank ! But with an alternate Email adress, I can send you the whole 50 seconds clip as I tried to extract a pic from the clip without success. The thing is so funny, the anchorman explaining to me (in french) how to put myself between the lights to let the show go on. I was in deep coma but recovered nicely for a nice run. The Honda is really ugly and was a pleasure to beat by about 2 seconds or so.

Yvon, 12.56 sec on street tires is a damn fine result for the first time out. Hooked yet? Way to get out there and represent.

Thanks JD. I guess I've been lucky and that these Pirellis are understated.

Their high speed capability means soft enough compound and their giant diameter and sides give them time to deform and hook on the first instant they are put to work instead of spinning. By the time they hook, the Procharger comes on to push the barge on the other end of the lane!:)

Good times. Looking at your 60' and trap speed you can run quicker w/ better traction.

What meth system and who did your retune?

What meth system and who did your retune?

The meth system is now hybrid Snow and Alkycontrol as I had reliability problems. I posted a little before about it on FIT forum. The tune is from Lidio at Alternative but we didn't take the meth into account since, at the time of tune (1 1/2 year ago), I didn't trust the reliablity. Time had made me right as I,m on my third pump now. The meth work very well but decide to just stop working without notice about once a year. Giving more timing into account means, IMO, a good chance of blowing an engine when experiencing a meth failure on high boost. I prefer to stay on the safe side.

Whoooooie......:banana2:

Great times....

Remember in WWII photos the Allied fighter planes painted the rising sun flags on their aircraft for every "kill"?

You need two on your drivers door just below the window. Three more and your an Ace. :cool4:

Today, the conditions were looking about as good as last week so I went back, the last time of the year as they forecast melting snow traces tonight.
It was 50% humidity and about 58 F.

Here's is my best of the two run below, a slight improvement with the spare out the car and 2 pounds less in the rears at 24 pounds total. I guess I established that the car is a 12.5 car with the Pirellis street tire and me aboard !

On the best of the 2 run, I did:

Reaction: .858
0-60 ft: 1.890
Elapsed: 12.509 @ 110.56 mph

Pretty happy so far but on borrowed time on first page MM.net list with a 25Th place !

Last week and also today, there was that Mopar 300 SRT8 that looked like stock. The guy was doing 13.2 something both days. I didn,t had opportunity to exchange with him but last week, he didn't open his hood and today he was staring at his engine bay .... Maybe he is now looking for improvement ... ;)
