We had our dealership put four 245/55s on the Marauder this morning. They are having a hard time with the traction control. They are trying to reflash the computer but no luck. I know some of you have done this. What are we missing?
Thanks,
Jim

I'm no expert but I think i read somewhere around here that the traction control and abs are setup for the rake. Higher back end.
If you want to use the same tires, then you need to replace the traction control and ABS modules with the Grand Marquis modules.
or reprogramme them.

with the 2003 300b and 2004 the traction control is looking for the rear tires to be 5-6% larger in circumference and hence different revolutions for a given speed. If the computer does not see this difference in tire speed it thinks "something bad" is going on and engages traction control. If I run the same size tire all around my traction control kicks in around 40-50 mph.
Solution, put the correct tires on the car. If they are not available put tires with a slightly larger circumference on the rear.

Or just get in the habit of cutting off the T/C whenever you start up the car.
I went to 245's in all four corners to enable tire rotation and extend tire life. Ran into the same problem with the T/C, but IMO, worth it as I've nearly doubled my tire life.

the best cure I have been told is to buy either sct or superchips and then set it up yourself! This is the least expensive way and you get to get a "chip" for your ride.

I have to turn my t/c off in order to drive my MM with 225/60-18s all around. I might install the 300A HCU and module plus the PCM in time.

IF you've got 225/60's, you need the 300C tune - that's their size tire!!

It is also the Taurus's size, too. At least these are plentiful and are the same hieght as our stock rears.

Just use the offset tire sizes.

Will this allow you to reset the TC & ABS modules? By the way where are they:).
Thanks,

This is not something one can adjust in the EEC, nor with any type of tuning.
The parameters lie in an eprom somewhere, not in the EEC. Similar to my wanting to turn off the tire pressure sensors in our Aviator. Can't be done.
Your only solution is to either use offset tire sizes and come as close as possible, or just turn off the traction control every time you drive. Traction control wasn't even available to those of us with 300A's, and besides, it's for wussies anyway. How did we survive for 100 years with out it...:dunno:

Even the 300A has to be careful. I had some lower profile rear tires on for awhile and the ABS light would come on.
The Traction control system is not a parameter that is reprogrammable.
If this car is to be sold from a dealership to a customer, put the correct size tires on it and tell the buyer to stay with this configuration.
235/50 18's in front
245/55 18's in rear.
They cannot be rotated front to rear, only side to side.
There are other brands available but the sizes are not exactly the same.
However, the relationship of tire circumference front to rear as the stock tires must be maintaned for the other brands to work.
The traction control is on by default but can be manually turned off.
If the dealer doesn't correct this problem with the correct size tires and proper placement then the customer will be very unhappy and that is not what the dealer wants, I'm sure. This is a limitation on Marauder models with traction control. Those models, early 03's, that do not have traction control are not affected by this issue.

Thanks Guys,
We will just be content with turning off the TC. I want the tire rotation and extended tire life.

I have a 300A so traction control is not an issue. But what about ABS? How is that affected?

I don't know, but it stops OK.

We noticed that there seems to be a power loss with the Traction Control turned off. Is there a timing retard tied in with the TC?

Agree with what has been said about maintaining the offset size ratio between fronts and rears and that this is not a programmable feature. The 5.0% to 6.5% difference seems to be an acceptable range for the MMs with T/C. This tolerance is adequate to allow for normal tire wear, too.
235/50ZR18's are 27.25" tall with an 85.61" circumference = 740.1 revs/mile.
245/55ZR18's are 28.61" tall with an 89.88" circumference (+5.0%) = 704.9 revs/mile.
255/55ZR18's are 29.04" tall with a 91.23" circumference (+6.5%) = 694.5 revs/mile.
Awesome tire size calculator
