View Full Version : Low Idle is this covered by the powertrain warranty?

Just wondering if I should go to the dealership or the better private guy across the street from the dealership.
Private guy has better trained guys, but no pickup or dropping off services. I have to pay to take a taxi to get back there, which adds to the cost of going there. Dealership has a shuttle bus service and the service Manager has a Marauder.
Now if it is warranty work I go to the dealership.
If not then I either go to the dealership or private guy depending on taxis buses and other things. Taxis are hard to get around here, particularly during Ramadan.
Problem is that my marauder idles at a very quiet 400rpm. When I turn left the idle drops to 250 300 and has stalled atleast once already.
Other here have suggested that it is likely the MAF Air Filtre and or other things. Would these be powertrain warranted?

I seriously doubt it.

If you're still under warranty, take it to the dealer and just tell them that your engine keeps stalling.
Let them figure out what the problem is.

Taxis? Do you have any relatives, friends, neighbors around you with vehicles?...

In Canada we are polite to strangers but never ever get to know our Neighbours.
Friends live nowhere near me and all work.
Relatives who drive do not live near me, closest are 200 miles away. My other sister lives 8000+ miles away.
I think I will go to the nearby dealership and just tell them it stalls on me. If worse comes to worse it is a ten minute walk.

I would try to clean the IAC....10 minute job and if it is stuck closed it will cause your condition....a little carb cleaner may just tell the story??

I called the nearby dealership. Waited on the phone 5 minutes, every 15 seconds a voice tells me that are busy please hold, my call is important to them. Then the background music ends and the phone rings, I'm thinking ok get ready and a voice tells me the call can't be completed make sure i dialed the right number. Then it goes dead.
So I try the other dealership, the one I like, I wait 5 minutes and I wait 3 more minutes and I hung up.
I call the Private place, they answer on the second ring, I'm booked in for Thursday morning and they will take care of it. Cost me a bus ticket each way and saves me 30% on the total cost and they only charge if they fix it.
I think that is why I keep going back.

Low Idle should be covered by the 80,000 mile / 8 year Federal Emissions warranty,
as long as the offending part is considered to be in the Emissions group.

I would try to clean the IAC...a little carb cleaner may just tell the storyI agree w/Marauderjack, but I wouldn't use carb cleaner anywhere near the throttle body. Use only cleaners that specify they're safe for coated throttle bodies, like this one (http://www.crcindustries.com/auto/content/prod_detail.aspx?PN=05078&S=N) or an equivalent.
