I am thinking about getting these 2 different tires for the front and back of my marauder. Even though it the tires are different, they are the same manufacturer and have VERY SIMILAR tread patterns. Here are the links to the tires. Tell me what you think. (Good idea or not).
FRONTS (235/50ZR18)

The front tires look great. not sure on the rear tires. They do have a lower speed rating and are made for trucks and suvs. I would also be concerned with their performance on a car like ours. Even though we weigh just as much.

These look like SUV tires for the rear.

Would that be a major problem (truck tire)? I know that size tire (255/55HR18) is popular on Maruader's. Unfortunately the Eagle F1's don't come in that size. I saw the Fortera TripleTred and the tread pattern was almost identical (a little more rugged). Both tires are HIGHLY rated at Tire Rack. Any suggestions are appreciated.

The Fortera is a SUV tire with silent armor technology (s.a.t.). They are great if you want to emasculate your suv and turn it into a "never leave the road, even get stuck in your driveway after a heavy frost" kind of car. They have a nice, quiet road ride but I don't think they would be a great catch for the MM. I had these put on my Durango "accidently", made them put the Wrangler" s.a.t. that I had ordered on my truck. I never drove it, but a friend of mine who has a habit of ruining things (not who you think) loves them. I made him remove the plastic testicles from the hitch after this though. Another friend (well, that's both of them) has a tire shop. He sells these, see above comments.

Thanks knine but there are 2 types of Fortera tires. There is the one with "Silent Armor" you mention, and the one I'm referring to with TripleTred (see link below).

I saw the Fortera suv tires up close. I see in the link these are for SUV's also. Don't know, if you do get them, let us know how they work out. The speed rating would be an issue I would be concerned with. With these, you wouldn't get stuck in a heavy frost then !!
Have a nice day :)

Triple treads are great tires but if you are using them for snow use get them all the way around.
Consider a 16 or 17 inch front tire.
Or a different brand.

How many SUVs do you think EVER actually leave the road? Honey let's park in the front yard so we lock the hubs in.

I test drove an Explorer by driving it through some ditches.
I test drove a Forester (with the salesperson) by driving it on a railroad track in 6 inches of gravel and 8 inches of snow. I stopped halfway along and thought It was stuck, but it drove right out.
Very impressive was that.

I've decided against the Fortera. They are truck tires and are not a good fit for the Marauder. How about this one for rear tires (Goodyear Eagle ResponseEdge). The tread is much different than the fronts (Eagle F1 All-Season). Would it be okay to run both of these at once?

Just because it's a truck tire doesn't mean to necessarily rule it out. Magindat recommended to me the Nitto 420S and I've been rocking them for about 5 months now with no problems. Sid210SA in TX will vouch for how things went on my local and long distance trips with them

Different speed ratings. I wouldn't mix them.
Try to match brand and tread front to rear, at least for appearance sake.

Of the available tire sizes (for the Goodyear Eagle ResponseEdge), what would be the right size to put on the front. (Without TC/ABS issues). Thanks again guys

Can I run the following? Would I be able to use my STOCK rims and would I have TC/ABS issues? Using the tires above:
FRONTS = (235/50R17)
REARS = (255/55/R18)
Thanks!

Check the size of your front tire. It's an 18 not 17

I could go 235/60VR18. Would that work. I assume it would cause TC issues?

235/60-18 is 29.1" (front) tall where as the 255/55-18 is 29.0" (rear) tall so yes it would cause a TC/ABS problem.

I've been messing with some tire calculators and think i've found it. Runnig these tires:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+F1+All+Season&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=35YR8F1ASXL&fromCompare1=yes&place=19
With these sizes:
FRONT: 235/40 R18
REAR: 255/45 R18
PLEASE let me know your opinions on that size combo. (TC issues, etc..)
Thanks!

Has anyone used this tire size combination or even know if it is a possible combo (no/minor issues)? Please help. I need to buy new tires ASAP!

REAR: 255/45 R18

Speed ratings are sidewall strength in turns. The fact that the Marauder has a speed rating tire of ZR is just for show because the stock Marauder can't drive past 125mph (H rating) anyway. Also snow tires never go this high because who drives 170 mph in the snow?
If you mix your speed rating just stay under the lowest speed rating and enjoy your tires.
try this link:http://www.neuralimpulse.com/maraudertires.html.
Note if your tires are smaller you will be going slower than your speedo reading and your mileage will read higher than it actually is.

Diabolical, the two tires above are the same speed rating. The height of the tires are slightly shorter but the width is the same/slightly wider (than stock). I was asking about the tire sizes above because I didn't see them on the matrix, and didn't know if it was a smart combo. Besides, can't I adjust the speedo with the XCal tuner?

hey my last edit didn't show up.
The ratio will be about 6.4% great at the rear.
the speedo will be out about 6 or so % as well.
Don't know about speedo adjustment I do know it can be done but with what I don't know.

Do you think the 6.4% ratio diff would trip the Traction Control? Sorry for the barrage of questions but I really appreciate the help! With the price of tires I want to make sure I do this right!
