:wave:Aloha Everyone,

How do I clean it? I just took off the throttle body for cleaning, and looked into the upper manifold...OMG! There is alot of oil in there! I guess oil was being sucked up from the PCV. I saw one of our vendors had the pre-filters to avoid this from happening...can't remember which one??? [help]

Back to my question...If I shoot carb. cleaner into it...I'm afraid that the residue will pool in the cylinders or on the top of the valves...not a good picture...

How do you guys do it?

All help would be appreciated...Thanks

JLT PCV pre-filter...

We were just discussing that here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showpost.php?p=538275&postcount=27). Instructions (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showpost.php?p=539185&postcount=30).

Maybe try the seafoam cleaning (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=34630&highlight=seafoam)through PCV tube on intake while running to clean it up?

May I suggest linking to the whole thread rather than a single post?

Here's the follow up, on trying to clean out the upper intake manifold...

I made a huge mistake...used the PCV tube coming out of the drivers side and enters the JLT air tube...Apparently this one (driver's side) PCV is the "inlet" [I wish I knew that!!!! ]

Well anyway, I pour in the sea foam, while the engine is runnig...and nothing...no smoke or roughness coming from the engine...that was the sign for me to look down...To my wonder I see all the sea foam pouring out the air filter...OOOOH ***** !!!

What a mess, it made....Had to take apart the entire air filter...clean it, and the entire air intake passage...What a PITA that was...

Came back to this site, to figure out what went wrong...Found out through reading posts and links from ts-pa (Thanks my friend) that the drivers side PCV is an "inlet" and it's the passenger side PCV that is the "out let"...

Now I realize that the pass. side PCV was the one I should of used...Funny thing, when I pulled the the driver's side, I did not feel any suction...That should of told me I had the WRONG ONE!

Well that's how lessons are learned...Hope my mistake helps others...

BTW: For blkwidowmerc, JLT does not give a part #, only says Model: PCVPF

Thank GOD that none of that spilled onto you exhaust, that stuff is flammable. Sorry, I guess that I should have been more clear when I recommended this method. Lesson learned on my part too.

Hey, ts-pa

That's what got me soooo freaked out....FIRE!!!!!

I certainly don't hold you responsible...I really DO appreciate all your help...

I should have known to look at the other side...

I'll try it again (using the pass. side) LOL...

Just go SLOW so that you don't hydrolock the engine! Be careful, this stuff has a very low flash point! I have seen naptha light up just by rubbing a desk with it.

Thanks for the info....Used the pass. side this time...worked like a charm...

Although, could not use a liquid type cleaner...The PCV needed to remain on the tube...So went with aerisol type to spray into the PCV, while the engine is running...Sprayed the whole can!

Took a while to burn off (huge white clouds)...but the car feels peppyier and seems like it revs quicker...Seems worth the lessons learned...Thanks again...

Glad everything worked out for you bro! I was always skeptical about that Sea Foam stuff (probaby because a while back on CVN a member poured some in and his car stopped running! lol) Now I know exactly what to do if I decide to go through with it.

Glad it worked for you! I didn't know seafoam comes in an aerosol can.
Here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/showimage.php?i=9775&postid=292#post292)is how I used the seafoam liquid in my PCV line. Yes, this was a posed shot taken by my eight yr. old helper.

GM makes this stuff called "top engine cleaner" This stuff is fantastic for cleaning the intake, valves and tops of the pistons. Its pretty simple and I've used it many times.. Simply pour in the intake (make sure it gets there) until the car stalls and then leave it for 20 minutes. Once it stalls DO NOT add any more!!

After 20 minutes, restart and your good to go (after the smoke clears)..

The proper way to clean the intake is with intake cleaner and the proper hose.. The hose is fed into the intake thru the throttle plate, it is sealed on the end and has holes on all sides (like those garden hose sprinklers you see once in a while) the cleaning agent sprays up and around while you snake it in and out. You can see this setup at any shop that does engine vac services.. Works wonders when done by the right tech..

Yeah it's called "Deep Creep"...Just shot it up the PCV valve while working the throttle...

Seems to have loosened up the motor!!!I can "bark" the tires now with just Hard throttle...as before, it could not...I honestly can feel a much better launch!!!

I'm VERY happy with this endeavor...

Trying to install a JLT pre-filter (once I figure out how?)...Guess it supposed to be so easy, it doesn't come with instructions...

Also got the oil/air separater from Jeg's, on order...to make sure the problem does not return...

BTW: Thanks for that info. on the "Top engine cleaner"...will look for it...
