I am not Rick but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Yes it was serious answer.

Its a plug from the factory, e.g., non-essential-throw-away-on-first-fluid-change-bobber-looking-thingy.

Thomas,

I can't help but chuckle, it's been a long time since anyone reported on their "lollipop". It's a plug put in by the factory to cover the dip stick hole until
the the tranny is mated to the car. Then the dipt stick tube pushes the "lollipop" into the pan. It doesn't affect the parts or the operation of the tranny.

However, that's a sure sign the tranny pan hasn't been dropped and the filter changed. Of course the oil can be changed by the flush and gush method and the "lollipop" would remain in the pan

We all got a scare from seeing that in our pans.

It was a serious answer. I wouldn't post it if it wasn't.

This is very interesting trivia.

BTW, Rick is serious 99.5% of the time here. The other .5% is when he's joking around with me.

Mine has 28k miles so the pan hasn't been off. I'd venture to guess a whole lot of cars here are at or under my mileage and haven't had the pans off either. I didn't buy this car to put a million miles on it.

There will always be clutch material in automatic trans fluid even with low mileage, just from normal operation.

That's known as the Elena stick. When Elena Ford decided against the S/C in the Marauder but jacked up the price another $5,000 anyway ... she left behind a little token of remembrance. All MMs got one just to let you know that she has stuck it to you. ;)

Mine is still in there since the dealer did a BG-106 trans flush at 30k. Said they don't drop the pan anymore.
